EU-Generaldirektor Mario Nava informiert sich über Projekt VirtAFlex an der Ohm

Im Rahmen eines Projektbesuchs informierte sich Mario Nava, EU-Generaldirektor der Generaldirektion Beschäftigung bei der Europäischen Kommission, über den aktuellen Stand und die bisherigen Ergebnisse des mit dem Europäischen Sozialfonds Plus (ESF+) geförderten Projekts VirtAFlex an der Technischen Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (Ohm). Begleitet wurde Nava von Vertreterinnen und Vertretern der ESF-Verwaltungsbehörde im Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Familie, Arbeit und Soziales und des Bayerischen Staatsministeriums für Wissenschaft und Kunst.

Das Projekt VirtAFlex unterstützt kleine und mittlere Unternehmen dabei, virtuelle und hybride Arbeitsmodelle gezielt einzusetzen, um Fachkräftepotenziale besser zu erschließen und den Zugang zur Arbeitswelt inklusiver zu gestalten. Der Fokus liegt dabei nicht allein auf technischen Lösungen, sondern auf der Verbindung von Organisationsentwicklung, Kompetenzaufbau und sozialer Teilhabe.

Während der Veranstaltung zeigte sich Nava sehr interessiert an den praxisnahen Ergebnissen des Projekts und würdigte insbesondere dessen konkrete Wirkung in den teilnehmenden Unternehmen. Dr. Ulrich Lettau von der iba AG in Fürth, ein Mitglied des Projektkonsortiums, berichtete eindrucksvoll, wie VirtAFlex unmittelbare Veränderungen angestoßen hat: Bei einem Neubau plant das Unternehmen hybride Konferenzräume nun bewusst ein und eine zuvor kritische Haltung gegenüber hybriden Meetings hat sich durch praktische Erfahrungen deutlich ins Positive gewandelt.

In der zweiten Hälfte des Besuchs wurde das Thema Inklusion vertieft. Das Projektteam stellte dar, wie Inklusion im Rahmen von VirtAFlex als Bestandteil moderner Arbeitsorganisation vermittelt wird. Deutlich wurde, dass hybride und virtuelle Arbeitsformen insbesondere für Menschen mit Mobilitätseinschränkungen, Betreuungspflichten oder gesundheitlichen Belastungen neue Zugänge zur Beschäftigung eröffnen können – gerade in kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen.

Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt des Treffens lag zudem auf der Außenwirkung des Projekts. Aus einer öffentlichen Vorstellung von VirtAFlex heraus entstand der Kontakt zu Ute Häußer, Geschäftsführerin der Barmherzige Brüder Behindertenhilfe gGmbH Mittelfranken. Sie nahm am Termin teil, um über eine mögliche Zusammenarbeit im Bereich Digitalisierung zu sprechen. Die Einladung verdeutlichte, dass VirtAFlex Impulse über den Kreis der Projektteilnehmenden hinaus setzt und neue Kooperationen an der Schnittstelle von Technik, Inklusion und sozialem Engagement anbahnt.

„VirtAFlex zeigt, wie technische Expertise und soziale Verantwortung zusammengeführt werden können“, so Prof. Dr. Ronald Schmidt-Vollus, Projektleitung am Nuremberg Campus of Technology (NCT) der Ohm. „Dass sich aus dem Projekt neue Partnerschaften im sozialen Bereich entwickeln, bestätigt die nachhaltige Wirkung des Ansatzes.“

Der Besuch unterstrich die Bedeutung von VirtAFlex als Beispiel dafür, wie ESF+-geförderte Projekte nicht nur kurzfristige Maßnahmen umsetzen, sondern langfristige Lernprozesse, Netzwerke und strukturelle Veränderungen anstoßen können. Für die Realisierung des Projekts VirtAFlex erhält die Ohm Fördergelder in Höhe von 426.882,55 Euro. Die Mittel stammen aus dem ESF+, der die Beschäftigungs- und Bildungschancen in Europa verbessern möchte.

EU Director-General of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission Mario Nava briefed on the VirtAFlex project at the Ohm

During a project visit, the EU Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, Mario Nava, was briefed on the progress and results to-date of the VirtAFlex project. The VirtAFlex project at the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (the Ohm) is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+). Director-General Nava was accompanied by representatives from the ESF Managing Authority from the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Familie, Arbeit und Soziales and the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts.

VirtAFlex aims to help small and medium-sized enterprises effectively utilise virtual and hybrid working models to unlock the potential of skilled workers and to make the labour market more accessible. The project does not focus exclusively on technological solutions, it incorporates aspects of organisational development, building competence and key skills, and social inclusion.

During the visit, Nava showed great interest in the practical results of the projects and particularly praised its specific impact on the participating companies. Dr Ulrich Lettau from the iba AG in Fürth, a member of the project consortium, shared an impressive report of how the project led to immediate changes: The company is now deliberately planning hybrid conference rooms in new buildings and its previously critical stance towards hybrid meetings has changed significantly for the better as a result of experiences in practice.

During the second part of the visit, the topic of inclusion was explored more extensively. The project team explained how within the VirtAFlex project inclusion is presented as an integral part of modern work organisation. It became clear that hybrid and virtual forms of work can open up new avenues of employment, especially for people with limited mobility, care responsibilities, or health issues - particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises.

The meeting also addressed the broader effects of the project due to public outreach. A public presentation of VirtAFlex led to contact with Ute Häußer, the managing director of the Barmherzige Brüder Behindertenhilfe gGmbH Mittelfranken, a support organisation for people with disabilities. She attended the event, to discuss potential collaboration in digitalization measures. The invitation made clear that VirtAFlex is generating momentum beyond the project consortium and it is initiating new collaborations at the intersection of technology, inclusion, and social engagement.
‘VirtAFlex shows how technical expertise and social responsibility can be brought together’, said Prof. Ronald Schmidt-Vollus, the project leader at the Ohm’s NCT (Nuremberg Campus of Technology). ‘The development of new partnerships in the social sector as a result of the project confirms its sustainable impact’.

The visit highlighted the importance of VirtAFlex as an example of how projects funded by ESF+ can implement short-term measures, but they can also initiate long-term learning processes, networks, and structural changes.
The Ohm received funding in the amount of 426,882.55 euros for the realisation of the VirtAFlex project. The funds come from the ESF+, which aims to improve employment and education opportunities in Europe.
