Abstract:
While the pessimists have so far been proven wrong by the continued bullishness of the markets, the question is for how long the party will be going on. This question is especially pertinent for Europe. If we do not manage to achieve a real Capital Market Union together, Europe will fall further behind the world’s leading economic and political (and military) superpowers, the US and China. Why? The answer is simple: only capital market are able to mobilise the resources necessary to finance measures preparing us for the three big challenges of our time: digitisation, decarbonization, and demographic change. What can Deutsche Börse do to contribute to this transformation? A lot. What exactly? This is what Deutsche Börse CEO Dr. Theodor Weimer is going to tell us. His presentation will be in English.

Dr. Theodor Weimer wurde 1959 in Deutschland geboren. Nach seinem Studium der Volkswirtschaft, Betriebswirtschaft und Geographie in Tübingen und St. Gallen (Schweiz) promovierte er zum Dr. rer. pol. an der Universität Bonn, wo er gleichzeitig als Assistent am Lehrstuhl von Prof. Dr. Albach tätig war. Im Anschluss arbeitete er von 1988-1995 als Management Consultant bei McKinsey & Company in Düsseldorf. Nach einem sechsjährigen Aufenthalt in Boston als Senior Partner und Mitglied des Global Management Committee bei Bain & Company wechselte er 2001 zu Goldman, Sachs & Co. oHG nach Frankfurt am Main. Dort war er zunächst als Managing Director tätig und stieg 2004 zum Partner in der Investment Banking Division auf. Von 2007 bis 2017 war Weimer in wechselnden Positionen bei der UniCredit Group beschäftigt, seit 2009 als Sprecher des Vorstands und von 2011 an war er zusätzlich Mitglied im Business Executive Committee (2011-2013) bzw. im Executive Committee (2013-2017) der Unicredit Group in Mailand. Seit 2018 ist Theodor Weimer Vorsitzender des Vorstands der Deutsche Börse AG.
