Data Acquisition and Analysis from Experiments in Turbulent Flows

Prof. Dr. Sergio V. Möller, Dr.-Ing. (guest lecturer), Full Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil

This presentation covers the fundamentals of data acquisition and analog-to-digital conversion. The analysis focuses on turbulent flows, presenting the criteria for choosing the sampling frequency and signal conditioning based on scale analysis. Sources of error in the data acquisition process are discussed. The analysis of stationary and non-stationary mathematical tools is presented. New challenging problems studied in the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory are also presented.
