Erasmus+ partner universities in Europe

Under the Erasmus+ programme, you can spend a semester abroad at one of the Ohm’s European partner universities. The established agreements with around 100 Erasmus partner universities make it easier for you to organise your stay abroad and offers many additional advantages. 

The benefits at a glance:

  • no tuition at Erasmus+ partner universities
  • financial support from Erasmus+
  • coursework achieved abroad is recognised for academic purposes (transferable credits)
  • organisational support from the International Office throughout all processes
  • support in finding accommodation (can vary depending on the respective university)

Our recommendation: Start planning your semester abroad early. Ideally, you should speak with the International Office’s Erasmus Team at least a year in advance of your stay abroad.

Good preparation is the key to a successful semester abroad. The websites below will provide useful information about various countries, educational systems, culture, entry requirements, and testimonials from previous exchange students:

Tip: Start early by researching the academic requirements and environment, living expenses, and entry requirements for the country you are interested in visiting for your semester abroad. It takes time to prepare a successful semester abroad.

Erasmus partner universities

The Ohm has a network of around 180 partner universities worldwide. Around 100 of these partners are members of the Erasmus+ programme and offer students the opportunity to financial support for a semester abroad in Europe.

If you are interested in spending a semester abroad with Erasmus, our database contains information about our Erasmus partner universities, eligible degree programmes, and key information about your preferred destination. 

Please note:
You can only apply at partner universities where cooperation is established for your degree programme. You may not select partner universities who have cooperation agreements covering other degree programmes.
The number of places at each partner university is limited. Places are allocated each academic year. Therefore, it is possible that some exchange places which were already allocated in winter semester may not be available for summer semester.

Double degree programmes

A double degree programme provides you the opportunity to complete part of your studies at a European partner university and, in addition to your degree from the Ohm, gain a second international university degree.

Many double degree programmes are organised within the Erasmus+ framework, which means you can benefit from the financial and organisational advantages offered by the programme. This allows you to gain international experience, broaden your academic and intercultural competence, and enhance your career prospects - at the same time.

Are you studying International Business and want to gain international experience? Our double degree programme offers you the opportunity to acquire an additional degree from our Finnish partner university within two semesters. To that end, you spend your 5th and 6th semesters at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK) in Finland.

The programme in Finland features a strong emphasis on practical application. You can look forward to exciting project modules in which you will work on real-world challenges from companies and develop valuable international skills for your future career.

Are you enrolled in the International Finance and Economics master's degree programme and want to add another international dimension to your studies? Our double degree programme offers you the opportunity to acquire an additional degree from our Norwegian partner university within two semesters.

To earn this degree, students spend - depending on when they began their programme - their 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th semesters at Nord University in Norway. At Nord University you will study in an international environment, advance your academic expertise, and gain valuable intercultural experience that will strengthen your career prospects in the global job market.

Are you studying International Business or ‘Betriebswirtschaft’ (B-BW) and would like to earn an additional international degree? Our double degree programme offers you the opportunity to acquire an additional degree from our French partner university, ICN Business School - Artem within two semesters.

You will spend an academic year in Nancy or Paris. You can choose from curriculums taught either entirely in English or in French. Please note that it is not possible to choose a programme that is a combination of both languages.

To be eligible, you must have completed at least 120 ECTS credits in your programme at the Ohm. In addition, you must provide evidence of your language proficiency at B2 level (CEFR) or higher, for example the following certificates:

  • TOEFL: 80 points or better
  • IELTS: 6.5 or better
  • TOEIC: 750 points or better
  • Cambridge Certificate Level C

  • University of Granada, Spain

    Are you studying International Business and would like to gain an international degree in addition to your degree from the Ohm? Our double degree programme with the University of Granada in Spain offers you exactly this opportunity.
    In the programme, you will spend your 5th and 6th semesters at the University of Granada and can gain an additional degree within two semesters. One of the semesters will be recognised as a semester abroad.
    As a bachelor’s degree in Spain requires 30 more ECTS credits than required by the programme at the Ohm, you will earn these additional credits during your second semester at the University of Granada. This allows you to fulfil the requirements of both universities and you will complete your studies with two accredited bachelor’s degrees.

Preparing

Linguistic proficiency

To be considered for the Erasmus+ programme, you will typically need to provide evidence of linguistic proficiency at B2 level or higher in the language of instruction at the partner university. The exact requirements will vary according to each specific partner university.

Examples of accepted language certificates:

  • Language Center courses (B2/C1)
  • Business English or Technical English
  • DAAD Language Certificate
  • TOEFL
  • IELTS

Please note: 
Language proficiency that is indicated only on an Abitur certificate is not accepted as evidence of language proficiency for Erasmus applications.

If you do not have a language certificate, you can take an assessment at the Language Center and obtain a certificate.

Tip: Language Center courses are an excellent way to develop your language skills in preparation for your semester abroad. All Ohm students can attend Language Center courses at no additional cost.

Courses and transfer credits

To ensure that the credits you earn abroad can be transferred to the Ohm and be recognised towards your degree, it is important to review the course selection at your preferred Erasmus+ partner university before you apply.

An early step in your process should be to check whether the courses offered at the partner university are suitable for your degree programme. Decisions regarding transfer credits are taken by your degree programme’s examination board.

Our recommendation: Contact your examination board and clarify which courses can be recognised as transfer credits during your planning phase. In many cases, examination boards have experience or lists of courses from partner universities that have been recognised in the past.

Usually, detailed module descriptions for the courses will be necessary for the examination board to conduct their review.

Within the Erasmus+ programme, the courses you select are designated in an Erasmus Online Learning Agreement (OLA) before you begin your stay abroad. The OLA forms the foundation for the subsequent recognition of coursework for transfer credits. Detailed information and instructions for drafting an OLA will be provided by the International Office’s Erasmus Team, after you have been nominated.

Important for Erasmus students: 
Recognition of academic achievements abroad (transfer credits) is not a requirement for receiving Erasmus+ funding. Students may still be eligible for a funded mobility period, even if the coursework completed abroad is not recognised for credit towards their degree from the Ohm. However, a condition for funding is that the minimum academic workload required by the Erasmus+ programme is achieved during the stay abroad. For information on current requirements, please contact the International Office’s Erasmus Team.

Please also be sure to adhere to any deadlines and requirements stipulated by your degree programme and your Faculty.

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sufficient insurance coverage in place before your Erasmus+ semester begins. Review your insurance arrangements before you depart and ensure that adequate coverage is in place for your entire stay abroad, including travel to and from the host country.

The following is recommended:

  • Health insurance
  • Liability insurance
  • Accident insurance
  • Travel insurance including repatriation coverage

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) generally offers basic insurance cover within Europe. However, this does not provide full cover for all services, for example, medical repatriation or special medical interventions.

Our recommendation: To ensure comprehensive insurance coverage during your semester abroad, obtain supplementary private health insurance for international travel, if necessary.

Safety information

Preparing early for important health and safety considerations will help make your semester abroad as trouble-free as possible.

It is recommended to:

  • submit your information to the crisis provision list “ELEFAND” at the German Foreign Office for German citizens
  • review your health insurance, vaccinations, and other health care provisions
  • educate yourself about your host country and what behaviours are appropriate there
  • make note of important emergency numbers
  • make digital and printed copies of important documents (e.g., passport, insurance policies, visa)

Tip: Use the safety checklist provided by the DAAD and learn as much as you can about the host country before you depart.

Travel and safety information

Regularly review current information provided by the Federal Foreign Office before and during your stay abroad.

In particular:

  • Travel information about entry requirements, medical information, and specific local information/regulations
  • Safety information about possible local risks and safety concerns
  • Travel warnings, which are issued under circumstances of acute danger to limb and life

Important: Make sure you have international health insurance, including medical repatriation coverage, for the duration of your stay abroad and keep up to date with current travel and safety information for your host country.

Funding opportunities

Erasmus+ funding

The Erasmus+ programme makes it possible for Ohm students to spend a period of 3 to 12 months studying at one of the Ohm’s Erasmus partner universities. Besides financial support, Erasmus+ offers the opportunity to gain international experience, develop language proficiency, and to experience other teaching and learning environments. 

Who can receive funding?

All enrolled, full-time students at the Ohm are eligible for Erasmus+ funding, provided they have completed at least the first year of their degree programme and have been nominated for a study abroad period at one of the Ohm’s Erasmus+ partner universities.

Funding duration

Students can receive Erasmus+ funding for up to 12 months (360 days) in each stage of their university studies (bachelor’s degree/master’s degree). Students may combine different Erasmus mobilities, but the maximum funding duration may not be exceeded.

 

Erasmus+ advantages

Students benefit from many advantages:

  • monthly Erasmus+ mobility allowance
  • additional supplementary grants for students with fewer opportunities
  • exemption from course fees (tuition) at the hosting partner university
  • organisational support from the International Office
  • coursework achieved abroad is recognised for academic purposes (transferable credits)
  • language preparation through Erasmus programmes, at no cost

 

Erasmus+ funding

The amount of the monthly allowance is oriented around the cost of living in the respective host country.

Country group 1:

600 euros per month

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden

Country group 2:

540 euros per month

Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain

Country group 3:

540 euros per month

Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey

The monthly funding rate is constant regardless of the availability of funds. However, depending on the availability of funds, the individual duration of funding may be limited.

 

Travel costs and green travel

In addition to the mobility grant, travel costs are also reimbursed pursuant to the actual distance between Nuremberg and the destination.

For environmentally friendly travel to and/or from their destination using low-emission means of transport, students may

  • receive higher travel cost allowances
  • receive additional funded travel days

Distances are calculated using the Erasmus+ Distance Calculator.

  • 10 km – 99 km
    28 euros - 56 euros for green travel
     
  • 100 km – 499 km
    211 euros - 285 euros for green travel
     
  • 500 km – 1,999 km
    309 euros - 417 euros for green travel
     
  • 2,000 km – 2,999 km
    395 euros - 535 euros for green travel
     
  • 3,000 km – 3,999 km
    580 euros - 785 euros for green travel

     

Special grants for students with fewer opportunities

Students who meet certain criteria may receive an additional 250 euros per month.

This applies for:

  • Students who have a disability
  • Students who have a chronic illness
  • Students who have a child/children
  • First-generation students (students who are the first in their family to pursue a university degree)

The different types Social Top-Ups can not be combined. However, all Social Top-Up grants may be combined with the green travel supplementary payment.

 

Online Learning Agreement (OLA)

The Online Learning Agreement (OLA) is a required component of the Erasmus+ mobility and it must be complete and approved before your semester abroad begins.

In the Learning Agreement, you define the lectures/courses you would like to attend at the partner university and which coursework can be recognised towards your degree when you return. It provides orientation for you when planning your semester abroad and provides transparency and the highest degree of certainty that the credits you earn abroad will be transferred.

The OLA must be coordinated with and approved by

  • the student,
  • the responsible examination board at the Ohm, and
  • the partner university

before the stay abroad begins.

Information, instructions, templates if needed, and login information to access the Online Learning Agreement will be provided by the International Office’s Erasmus Team, after you have been nominated.

 

Language preparation (OLS)

Erasmus+ offers language tests and courses - through the Online Language Support (OLS) - in many European languages.

The OLS language assessment is required and serves to assess and document a person’s language proficiency before a mobility begins. The language courses can be used to improve students’ proficiency in the language of instruction or national language.

Please note that the OLS test does not fulfil any language certificates that may be otherwise required. Any required language proficiency requirements (typically B2 level or higher) set by a partner university must be fulfilled unrelated to the OLS offers.

 

Erasmus Grant Agreement

After application, nomination, and submitting all of the required documents, you will receive your Erasmus Grant Agreement.

It is mandatory that this funding agreement be signed and submitted to the International Office before your semester abroad begins.

 

Funding disbursement

Erasmus funding is issued in two disbursements:

  • 70% is issued at the beginning of mobility
  • 30% is issued after the mobility is completed and all required documentation has been submitted

 

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have adequate insurance coverage for the entire duration of your Erasmus mobility (including travel to and from the host country).

The following is recommended:

  • Health insurance
  • International health insurance including repatriation coverage
  • Liability insurance
  • Accident insurance

A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) only provides basic insurance coverage within Europe. In many cases it is not a sufficient substitute for comprehensive international health insurance.

 

After your semester abroad

After you return, various documents must be submitted. These documents include:

  • Confirmation of Stay
  • Transcripts of Records
  • Other certficates/forms from the partner university, in some cases
  • Erasmus report via the Beneficiary Module

The second funding disbursement can only be issued after all finalising documents have been received.

 

Applying

If you are interested in an Erasmus+ semester, a first step is to find out about which Erasmus partner universities are suitable for you and what the application deadlines are.

Applicants are selected based on various criteria, which include:

  • Academic achievements
  • Motivation
  • Linguistic proficiency

Students who have been selected and nominated for an Erasmus+ partner university will receive all necessary information and further application forms from the International Office’s Erasmus Team.

Erasmus Student Charter

The rights and obligations of Erasmus+ students are defined in the Erasmus Student Charter. A copy of the charter is provided to all participants before their stay abroad begins.

 

Please note: The allocation of Erasmus+ funding is subject to the availability of funds and individual eligibility for the requested mobility. There is no entitlement to receive funding. Applications must be submitted before the stay abroad begins.

BAföG for study abroad

Please note: BAföG for study abroad (‘Auslands-BAföG’) is not managed by the Ohm’s International Office. 
The relevant BAföG offices for study abroad (BAföG-Auslandsämt) can provide information on eligibility, financial support, and application procedures.

Even if you do not receive BAföG in Germany, you may be eligible for BAföG for study abroad. Depending on your individual situation, funding may be available for the following expenses, among other things:

  • Tuition
  • Travel costs
  • Health insurance
  • additional ‘Auslandszuschläge’

Each host country is assigned to a specific BAföG office.

Important: Apply as early as possible, preferably at least six months before your planned stay abroad, to allow sufficient time for processing your application.

The funding opportunities listed below are not managed by the Ohm’s International Office. The application, selection, and awards processes are entirely managed by the respective organisation. If you have questions about eligibility, deadlines, or the application processes, please contact the responsible organisation, directly.

  • Deutschlandstipendium

Only two to three per cent of students in Germany currently receive a grant. That figure is very low compared to other industrialised nations. The Ohm would like to change that and has been issuing Deutschlandstipendien to students since winter semester 2011.

  • British Council

On the British Council’s website, students can search for scholarships and other funding opportunities to support studying in the UK.

The Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (BAYHOST) is an institution set up by all universities, universities of applied sciences and universities of the arts in Bavaria and awards grants for study and research stays, summer language courses and internships in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe.

The “Gemeinschaft für studentischen Austausch in Mittel - und Osteuropa (GFPS) e.V.” (Association for Student Exchanges in Central and Eastern Europe) awards grants for periods of study in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Universities of applied sciences are highly regarded in Germany and around the world, especially for their practical orientation. The DAAD is helping students at universities of applied sciences carry out study and research visits abroad and supports the universities in cultivating collaborations with international partners.

It provides a database of grants, ranging from grants for a full year in any country and any subject, grants for combined study and internships abroad, grants for language courses, etc.

Applying and administration

Guidelines for a semester abroad at Erasmus partner universities

Before you apply, please read the Guidelines for Outgoing Erasmus students. The Guidelines contain the most important information and deadlines you will need to know about doing a semester abroad at an Erasmus partner university. It will guide you through planning your semester abroad.

Tip: Start early by learning about the application process and eligibility requirements for your semester abroad. It takes time to prepare a successful semester abroad.

Application process

Applications to spend a semester at a partner university must be submitted on the International Office’s SoleMove online portal. Use your my.ohm login to sign in to SoleMove and complete the application form.

You will need the following documents in PDF format:

  • Cover letter (personal statement) addressed to the first-choice partner university (1 page maximum)
  • CV, formatted as a table
  • Language certificates for the language of instruction and/or national language (Abitur certificate is not accepted!)
  • Current transcript (incl. grades)
    If you are in the first semester of a master’s programme and do not yet have a current transcript with grades, please submit a copy of the final transcript for your bachelor’s degree.
  • Current confirmation of enrolment from the Ohm
  • Signed endorsement letter from the Academic Coordinator of your Faculty

Important information:

  • Only one application is accepted each application cycle.
     
  • On your application form, you can indicate up to four alternatives to your first-choice partner university. You may indicate partner universities from outside the Erasmus programme as alternatives. It is not possible to submit an additional separate application (e.g., one for European partners and one for partners worldwide).
     
  • Your application, however, should always be addressed to your first-choice university.
     
  • You can only apply at partner universities where cooperation is established for your degree programme. You may not select partner universities who have cooperation agreements covering other degree programmes or Faculties.
     
  • It is not possible to apply to a partner university directly. The Ohm’s International Office must receive your application and nominate you for the place at the partner university.
     
  • Please understand that applications can only be considered, if they are complete and submitted on time.

Application deadlines

  • Winter semester 2027/28: by 31 January 2027
  • Summer semester 2028: by 30 June 2027

After you’ve applied

After the application period has closed, all applications will be reviewed. Usually, you will hear if you have been nominated for a place at a partner university four to six weeks after the application deadline.

Summary of all degree-related experiences abroad

A record of all degree-related study abroad or other mobilities completed by students at the Ohm are centrally recorded by the university and included in the Diploma Supplement when you graduate. The Diploma Supplement is a graduation document that is provided in addition to your final official transcript (‘Abschlusszeugnis’) and provides official documentation of your international experience.

Please use the ‘Record of degree-related study abroad’ form provided by the Student Office.

Important: Please complete the record form and send it to the Student Office together with the confirmation from your host university after completing your semester abroad.
