All university members are welcome to participate in the culture and leisure programme offered by the Ohm International School. At our events, you will have many ways to network, experience intercultural exchange, learn about new countries and languages, or to simply meet up and talk.

Welcome Day for new international students

When: Wednesday, 30 September:10.00 am - 4.00 pm

At the event, new international students will receive important information about studying at the Ohm, can meet other students and staff, and learn more about student life in Nuremberg.

Weekend excursion to Franconian Switzerland (‘Fränkische Schweiz’)

When: Saturday, 17 October, 9.00 am – Sunday, 18 October 2026, 4.00 pm

An offer for international students

Discover the natural beauty of Franconia on the weekend excursion to Franconian Switzerland. Join us on a trip to Pottenstein, where we will visit the Devil’s Cave and continue with a walk to the popular summer toboggan run. Following a day full of activities, we will head to the youth hostel in Pottenstein, where we will enjoy dinner together.

On Sunday, we will explore the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bayreuth and visit the Hermitage with its historic parkland and fountains. Come and discover the heart of Franconia on an unforgettable weekend adventure. 

Overnight accommodation in the Youth Hostel Pottenstein 
Costs: 40 €
Price includes:

• Bus from Nuremberg → Pottenstein (17 October)
• Bus from Pottenstein → Bayreuth → Nuremberg (18 October)
• Entrance fee incl. guided tour in the Devil’s Cave
• Overnight accommodation in youth hostel
• Dinner on Saturday
• Breakfast and a packed lunch on Sunday

Language tandem

The language tandem matching event will be on 5 November.

The language tandem programme allows students the opportunity to train and expand their language skills through casual conversation with native speakers of the target language. We provide a matching service to help establish language tandems.

Looking for an evening for creativity? At a Talk & Paint event you will create your own artwork, step-by-step. No previous experience or expertise required! While you are painting, there is plenty of time for talking, connecting, and a lot of fun.

Come on your own or bring friends. Join us, let your creativity run wild and enjoy a fun evening with good conversation and shared experience.

Mi casa es tu casa

The “Mi casa es tu casa - Zu Gast bei Freunden” project offers international students at the Ohm the opportunity to get to know staff at the university and their families.

Language tandem

Interested in learning a foreign language or in improving your skills in a foreign language? Looking for interactive and dynamic exchange? If so, the Language Tandem programme is just what you are looking for! Language Tandem means that, usually, two people with different native languages work together to improve their language skills.

How does Language Tandem work?

When you register, you state your native language and other languages that you are learning and would like to improve. Ohm staff will then search its database for a student who is a native speaker of that language. 

By getting together and doing activities together, you will soon pick up valuable skills in a foreign language, while at the same time getting to know new people and cultures within our university. You can decide how you want to arrange your meetings and what you want to learn and do together.

Language tandem event

Nothing is like personal exchange! Once each semester, we hold our popular language tandem event! You can get to know each other, find new tandem partners, or develop established networks with games and varied exchange formats in a relaxed atmosphere.

The next language tandem event will be on 5 November.

All students who participated in the language tandem programme in winter semester will receive an invitation to the event by email. Information about registering for the follow-up event will be included in the email.

New participants are also very welcome! If you would like to join the language tandem programme, please sent us an email at sprachtandem@th-nuernberg.de to receive information about registering.

How we use your registration details

All information is provided voluntarily. If you want us to delete your personal information from the Language Tandem database at any time, please let us know via email at sprachtandem@th-nuernberg.de. The information you provide will only be used by staff at the Ohm to match you with a language partner and will not be divulged to third parties. For matching purposes, only your name and university email will be passed on to your selected tandem partners, as a suggestion. Other data will not be passed on and can be shared with your tandem partner once you have got in touch with him/her in person and at your own discretion.

Country evenings

The International Office hosts one or two country evenings each semester. These events are planned by international students at the Ohm. They present their home countries by sharing regional culinary specialties, entertainment, music, and information.

“Certificate of International Competence” (NIKo)

Have you spent a semester abroad (study or internship), volunteered in the international sphere during your studies, attended extra-curricular language courses, or boosted your intercultural skills by attending training or country seminars?

The Ohm will reward your additional commitment with the “Certificate of International Competence” (NIKo), which you will receive free of charge. More information about the Certificate of International Competence (NIKo).
