Support for third-party funded projects

The University Research Services (Zentralstelle für Wissens- und Technologietransfer - ZWTT) will advise you regarding procuring and carrying out third party-funded projects at national and international level. This includes searching for suitable funding programmes, providing advice and assistance with applications, and offering administrative support throughout all phases of the project.

Note for doctoral researchers: Even if you are employed on a research project during your doctorate, only the research project itself can be financed by third-party funds (and thus, if applicable, your role in the project), but not the actual doctorate. You can apply for scholarships to fund your doctorate.

Scholarships

Scholarships can be used to finance parts of your doctorate or related research projects at home and abroad. In addition, many scholarship providers also offer non-material support to help you achieve further qualifications and to put you in touch with other scholarship holders.

Financial support for women in research

As women are still underrepresented in research, especially in STEM subjects, there are several programmes that provide financial support to promote women’s advancement in the field. The University Service for Family, Equality, and Occupational Health (HSFG) lists these on its website and will be happy to advise you if you have any questions.

Conferences and congresses

Are you looking to present your research at a conference abroad and exchange ideas with other specialists? If you are presenting or otherwise actively contributing to the event, you may apply for funding to help cover your travel, participation, or accommodation costs. The DAAD’s programme, ‘Vortragsreisenprogramm’ is one possible source of funding or the HAW.International, also a DAAD programme, for ‘Förderung von Messe- und Kongressreisen’.

Research stays overseas

A research stay overseas is a very good opportunity to get to know other researchers and research approaches that can provide fresh momentum for your work. If you are interested and perhaps already have a specific region in mind, please contact us. We will be happy to help you!

Shorter stays overseas

Would you like to gain experience overseas during your work at the Ohm, but you don’t have a lot of time? Many of our partner universities offer one- to two-week Staff Weeks during which you can exchange ideas with colleagues from all over the world on a defined topic related to working at scientific institutions. There are also frequent calls for proposals for shorter stays abroad, sometimes specifically for early-stage researchers. The International Office will advise you on participation.

Professional development at the Ohm

The currently offered courses organised by the Doctoral Researach Center Office can be found via our home page. Many other units at the Ohm also offer events and workshops for research staff. The current catalogue can be found on the VirtuOhm platform. You will need your Ohm user ID to log in to VirtuOhm.

Career Service offers

The Career Service will assist you with planning the next stage of your career, in particular with going into the employment market. On the Career Service website, you will find information about university workshops and the current seminar programme. You can also take advantage of the individual career planning advice sessions offered by the Career Service team.

Support for women in research

The proportion of women in scientific professions has risen in recent years, but the number of women in senior positions in this field is still low, in particular in the STEM subjects. In the interest of gender equality, the Ohm would like to encourage qualified women to pursue careers in science. The University Service for Family, Equality, and Occupational Health (HSFG) therefore offers advice sessions and events for women who are interested in working in research and in particular towards a doctorate or professorship.

Bavarian qualification programme offered by the BayZiel Didactics Department

The Bavarian Center for Innovative Teaching (BayZiel) is a joint institution of the 17 state-run Bavarian universities of applied sciences. BayZiel’s aim is to advance teaching quality and drive the continued development of innovative teaching and learning formats. Besides offers for current professors, the Didactics Department (BayZiel Didaktikzentrum) also offers qualification courses for early-stage researchers. The catalogue includes regularly held Cycle-Workshops and a seminar series that is tailored to current demand. Networking at the Ohm

Nationwide and international networking

The Ohm is a member of various networks, which enables you as one of our early-stage researchers to take part in their events. There are also German networks for doctoral researchers, like Thesis e.V., which offer a way to network. Thesis e.V. is also part of the Eurodoc platform, which offers registered members the opportunity to network with other doctoral students from the EU in working groups and at conferences.
