In principle, it is possible to have periods of study, academic achievements, professional and training periods, and work experience recognised if they are equivalent.

The examination boards for the individual degree programmes decide which previous work and competences will be credited and the number of ECTS points allocated. Classification into study semesters or subject semesters is based on the number of ECTS points, with 15-30 ECTS points each corresponding to the crediting of one semester. 

 

If you are applying for admission

, you must submit the requests for recognition/crediting with your other application documents by the end of the application period at the latest – i.e. by 15 July for a winter semester and by 15 January for a summer semester. 

  • Recognition of experience for the pre-study internship: ‘Anrechnung von beruflichen Zeiten auf das Vorpraktikum’ (in German). Full or partial recognition may be granted if you can demonstrate that you completed relevant vocational training or gained professional experience, prior to commencing your studies, that fulfils the requirements (equivalent objectives and content) of a pre-study or foundational internship.

 

If you wish to submit further requests after starting your studies, these can be submitted within the first four weeks of the semester start, with appropriate documentation. Requests submitted after this point can only be considered in the respective semester if a decision can be made before the examination period, otherwise they will be recognised or credited to the following semester.

 

Requests for the recognition or crediting of coursework can only be made at a later stage in the degree programme

if the student has not yet started the examination to be credited and the coursework has not been graded with an “Amtsfünf” (= failed) due to missing the deadline.
