As soon as you have secured your study place, you get on with searching for suitable accommodation. Demand for low-cost accommodation in a major city such as Nuremberg is extremely high in the run-up to the start of a new semester. Below you will find an overview of possible types of accommodation and useful links to help you find a place to live.

Student halls of residence run by Student Services

A room in a hall of residence is usually very cheap but also very sought-after. It costs between 100 and 200 euros per month, depending on the size. Rooms are kept available for a wide variety of requirements and circumstances. You can rent a single room with a shared bathroom and shared kitchen, but also single apartments or even family flats suitable for students with children. The Studentenwerk Erlangen-Nürnberg offers a total of over 3,700 housing places of its own The Student Services (Studentenwerk) website provides an overview of the individual accommodation places, and you can also apply online there for a place.

Private-sector student halls of residence

In addition to the Student Services’ halls of residence, there are also many other student flat complexes that are operated by private institutions. A room in a private-sector student hall of residence usually costs slightly more, typically between 200 and 300 euros per month depending on size, facilities, and location. The room may be furnished, partly furnished, or unfurnished.

Private landlords

A room from a private landlord costs in excess of 180 euros per month, also depending on size, facilities, and location. The room may be furnished, partly furnished, or unfurnished. As well as searching various online platforms (see list of links below), you can also try the Student Services’ private-sector housing referral office in Nuremberg.

Room in a shared flat (Wohngemeinschaft or WG)

This involves sharing a flat with multiple residents, often students, in which each person has their own room. The kitchen, bathroom, and any other communal rooms are shared. Cheap rooms in shared flats are available from around 150 to 200 euros per month. Rooms are usually unfurnished.
