Nuremberg Tech offers various master's degree programmes. Most of them are taught in German; but we have some highly sought after international business degree programmes that are offered in English. For admission to a master's degree programme, a completed university degree with a good grade point average is necessary.

Most master's degree programmes may begin in either the winter or summer semester, so the application periods may vary.

General descriptions of our master’s degree programmes, grouped by Faculty, are listed below. Much more detailed information is available via the page Alle Studiengänge in German.

Faculty of Applied Chemistry

Applied Chemistry (M.Sc.)

Anyone wishing to succeed as a chemist or chemical engineer must possess adequate expert knowledge. That is why, at the beginning of the application-oriented Applied Chemistry master's degree programme, we ask you to select a specialist area of study: biochemistry, chemistry, or technical chemistry.

By choosing a specialist area of study, you will be able to deepen your specialist knowledge in the scientific or engineering field of your choice in a goal-oriented manner. Alongside expert knowledge, methodical competences and the ability to work independently and scientifically are vital. You will primarily be taught these key elements by means of project papers. The master’s degree programme will therefore fully prepare you to perform tasks in the fields of product-related research and development or production. Graduating with a Master of Science degree will also open up the possibility of completing a doctorate. The admission requirement for the master’s degree programme is the completion of a bachelor’s degree programme in Applied Chemistry or training in a related field (e.g. chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, etc.).

            Urban Mobility (Transportation Engineering) (M.Eng.)

The provision and organization of mobility for persons and goods are one of the basic requirements for a working economy. Dealing with traffic in this regard requires multidisciplinary capabilities, which are often under-represented in conventional engineering courses.

With that in mind, it is our duty to combine the benefits offered by the diverse range of courses available at our university in the fields of road construction, transportation planning, traffic engineering, automotive engineering, and transport economics in the form of a high-quality academic qualification that is of use to interested students. Very few German cities have played such a significant role in the history of transport as Nuremberg. Our university is one of the oldest universities in Germany with a technical focus and was founded by Johannes Scharrer, who also established the first railway line in Germany, which ran from Nuremberg to Fürth.

                Computer Science (M.Sc.)

The Computer Science master's degree programme is a theory-based and practice-oriented postgraduate degree programme. When building upon the subject knowledge already gained, the programme primarily has a scientific focus, but does not neglect the application-based elements.

Our graduates gain employment in the fields of practical and applied computer science and in particular the planning and programming of system-based and application-oriented software and the deployment of distributed software systems within computer networks. They are employed by companies from all industries, as well as by public bodies. It is not just IT departments that offer job opportunities; they can also be found in user areas, software companies, and consulting companies. Graduates of the Computer Science master’s degree programme are particularly well-suited to management roles and especially demanding technical tasks that require the application of scientific methods, together with a high degree of abstraction, and excellent analytical skills.

Energy Management and Energy Technology (M.Eng.)

The energy landscape is increasingly moving in the direction of renewable energies and efficient processes. In the future, engineers working in the field of energy technology and energy management will increasingly be tasked with shaping this evolution, since it demands both improvements to existing energy conversion processes and methodological expertise for the analysis and comparative assessment of entire systems.

Photovoltaic, wind energy, geothermal, natural gas, or hydropower plants convert renewable sources into clean energy. High-efficiency decentralized cogeneration units provide electricity and heat in a predictable and climate-friendly manner. The increasing presence of green energy within the power network requires energy experts who are able to provide safe and smart system-based solutions for the generation, transmission, distribution, and use of energy.

With a view to imparting complete energy management expertise, Ansbach University of Applied Sciences, Nuremberg Institute of Technology, and Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences are combining their energy expertise in an accredited Energy Management and Energy Technology master's degree programme with graduates being awarded the degree “Master of Engineering” (M. Facility Technology (M.Eng.)

This degree programme is innovative for a number of reasons. Its structure and content have been developed in close collaboration with Bavarian facility technology companies.

The master's degree programme gives students the ability to perform demanding and complex project management and leadership tasks within facility technology companies. The master's degree programme builds upon the knowledge gained during an initial university degree in the field (berufsqualifizierend) and, as an advanced degree programme, includes a high proportion of business administration and law, content on the subject of energy-efficient construction, building, and system simulations, building automation, as well as practice-oriented projects.

The projects within the master's degree programme teach social skills, willingness to cooperate, and communication skills. Students learn how to work successfully in groups and how to lead teams in a creative and motivational manner. As a result, students should be able to qualify for such leadership and management tasks much more quickly than the up to ten years of work experience that is usually required. The relevant branches of industry are seeking graduates who, in addition to a technical degree, also have the type of training offered by this master’s degree programme.

The aim of the follow-on Social Work master's degree programme is to prepare students for professional practice in management roles in the field of social work by teaching them multidisciplinary scientific content and methods and a practice-oriented focus.
