The fields in which mechanical engineers are employed are unsurpassed in their diversity and range from machines, vehicles, equipment, and installations, right through to operational procedures, processes, and materials.

When researching, planning, developing, constructing, and producing innovative products, engineers play a pivotal role in shaping the future. Organizational, business administration, and socio-political issues are always of importance in this regard. Their tasks include the following: Developing/testing low-emission combustion engines, developing/constructing high-efficiency energy systems, planning optimal production processes within factories, testing new materials for aircraft engines, developing mobile robots, preparing expert reports, and designing environmental engineering measures.

  • Required language certificates:

    Instruction in this degree programme is conducted in German. Applicants who are native speakers of a language other than German, who do not have bachelor’s degree from a German educational institution, and who have not completed German-language vocational or professional training at secondary school must provide one of the following certificates as documentation of their German proficiency:

    • German language examination for the university admission of foreign applicants (DSH-Stufe 2)

    • TestDaF (“Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache” with an above-average score (minimally level 4 in all four examination components)

    • Telc German C1 University (“Telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule”)

  • Pleasure in puzzling, tinkering, trying things out

Common stumbling blocks

  • The requirements in mathematics and physics are sometimes underestimated: For calculations, for example, good maths skills are necessary.
  • The programme also requires a certain amount of discipline and stamina, as the bachelor’s programme is very dense. Overall, the course of study is quite manageable - but you have to “stick with it” from the very beginning.
