The bachelor’s degree programme in Mechanical Engineering is planned based on a 7-semester standard duration and can be divided into the following components.

The first four semesters form the first component of the programme. It provides a basis in the fundamental mathematical and scientific subjects and in the disciplines of mechanics, design, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics.

Practical relevance of the degree programme

The programme in Mechanical Engineering at the Ohm is very practice-oriented. Intense collaboration with industrial companies in the region, multifaceted collaborations with foreign partner institutions, and projects involving applied research and development characterise the teaching and learning environment in the Faculty and help to ensure that graduates are optimally prepared for the requirements they will face in the professional world.

A practical semester completed outside of the university forms an integral part of the degree programme.

Bachelor’s thesis

You complete your degree with a bachelor’s thesis in semester 7. Elective modules run parallel to writing your thesis; these elective modules may be taken as online courses.

Educational opportunities or qualifications following a bachelor’s degree

Following a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, you can complete a master’s degree at the Ohm or at any other university or university of applied sciences. The following programmes are suitable: master’s degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering (in German), Industrial Engineering and Management (in German), Applied Research (in English).

For this bachelor’s programme, there are formal requirements that you must fulfil in order to be able to start the programme. There are also a number of personal requirements that you should meet.

For all applicants

  • General admission requirements (e.g., Abitur or other academic credentials or professional/vocational qualifications)
  • English language proficiency at least at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
