“200 Jahre Ohm” - The Technische Hochschule Nürnberg is celebrating its anniversary

Nuremberg Tech is celebrating its 200 year anniversary.

Founded in 1823 as the “Städtische Polytechnische Schule”, it was influenced early on by physicist Georg Simon Ohm: first as a professor and as of 1839 as rector.

Today, the university bears his name: Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm.

At Nuremberg Tech, more than 13,000 students currently are studying in over 60 academic programmes at thirteen Faculties.

For its 200 year anniversary, Nuremberg’s largest university will show itself in all of its facets with a diverse event programme at various sites across the city.

Dear university members, dear friends of our university,

200 years ago the “Städtische Polytechnikum” was founded in Nuremberg - the oldest of our antecedents. Not many universities have such a long history, and we are rightly proud of our tradition. We are also proud to be named after the world-renowned physicist, Georg Simon Ohm, who was a physics and mathematics professor at the “Polytechnikum” between 1833 and 1849, and also fulfilled the role of rector. At the same time, our tradition sets us a mission to provide the best teaching, learning, and research environment and a charge to act to further that mission for the next 200 years.

A part of the city

The official starting signal for our anniversary year will be on 24 March at a ceremony on our campus with the Minister President, Dr. Markus Söder, the Science Minister, Markus Blume, and our Lord Mayor, Marcus König. Our other celebration events that will take place throughout 2023 will be open to the public and also at locations off of our campus. We will be hosting at various sites within the city and present in many different ways. Use these opportunities to get to know us or to rediscover us. Come join in a conversation with us as a university, with our faculty, staff, and students and get a sense of all we can offer.
Details about our events will be posted on this website and in the usual event platforms. If you want to be sure not to miss anything, you can join our anniversary email list, the “Jubiläumsverteiler” , to receive information regularly about “200 Jahre Ohm”. Most of our events are planned to take place in German, but we will be sure to send information in English for events for international audiences.

I am looking forward to so many entertaining events and interesting exchanges with you.
Discover our potential and celebrate together with us!

Yours,
Prof. Niels Oberbeck
