Erasmus Blended Intensive Programmes

What are Erasmus BIPs?
Erasmus Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are short, innovative programmes that combine in-person and virtual learning phases. The format provides students an opportunity to work on an interdisciplinary topic with international participants, to experience new teaching and learning formats, and gain valuable international experience - even when it is not possible to spend an extended period abroad.

A BIP comprises:

  • a virtual phase, during which participants work together online on assignments or projects

    and

  • an in-person phase (usually 5 - 30 days) at one of the Ohm’s Erasmus partner universities in Europe

The programmes are organised by at least three Erasmus universities and must be designed for students from all subject areas.

Advantages of a BIP

  • International experience over a compact period
  • Acquisition of intercultural and digital skills
  • Collaboration in international teams
  • Opportunity to earn ECTS credits
  • Support from the Erasmus+ programme

Financing and support

Participation in an Erasmus BIP can be supported financially by the Erasmus+ programme. Students receive a short-term mobility grant for the in-person phase. The amount of the grant depends on the length of stay and destination country.

Costs eligible for support:

  • Travel costs (by distance category)
  • Accommodation costs (day or weekly rates)
  • Additional support (Social TopUp grants) for students with fewer opportunities (e.g. students with a disability, chronic illness, parents, etc.)

Contact the Erasmus team in the International Office for details about what support is available and how to apply.
