Application process for NC-restricted programmes

If you wish to apply for a NC-restricted bachelor’s degree programme as a first-year student, the application is processed during the course of the dialogue-oriented service procedure in conjunction with the Trust for Admission to Higher Education.

During the course of this procedure a comparison is made with applications to other universities to ensure that study places can be filled as efficiently and with as much transparency as possible. In this case, you will use both the Ohm’s StudyOhm portal and the hochschulstart.de portal.

Please note that deadlines and time periods for hochschulstart.de that are listed on the Ohm’s webpages are subject to change. Please always check on hochschulstart.de.

Register in the hochschulstart.de application portal and obtain your BID (applicant identification number) and BAN (applicant authentication number).

The Trust for Admission to Higher Education is responsible for the hochschulstart.de portal.

Now register for an account in StudyOhm. In order to do this, you will need a valid email address to which all future information concerning your application will be sent.

Activate your personal account using the login details that have been sent to you by email.

Please note: Please create only one account – you can use this single registration to apply for all degree programmes within the deadlines.

If you are already enrolled at the Ohm, you do not need to register again. You can use your university login (StudyOhm login)

After your account is activated, you can use StudyOhm to apply for degree programmes at the Ohm that are included in the dialogue-oriented service procedure. To do this, you must enter your BID and BAN from “Hochschulstart” when you apply.

It is also possible to apply for multiple degree programmes at the same time. The normal application periods at the Ohm apply. The application periods applicable to your degree programme can be found on the respective degree programme website.

Within the scope of the dialogue-oriented service procedure, a total of 12 applications to different universities can be assigned the status “active” on hochschulstart.de. Only those applications will be included in the awarding procedure.

You must upload various documents when you apply in StudyOhm. Please ensure that the scans are of high enough quality that the documents are easily legible.

The following will be required, at least:

  • A CV presented in chronological order and without any gaps, formatted as a table (no photo, include information about the time period you were enrolled in school, including instruction and any training periods, and information about your German language proficiency (e.g. taught hours)
  • Language certificate(s) (a list of recognised language certificates for German is available in this pdf; accepted certificates for English requirements is set by each respective programme and can be found on the programme website)
Note: if you do not have a certificate when you apply, you can submit it at a later time, but it must be submitted before you enrol.
  • Passport or personal ID (if you have more than one citizenship, please upload scans of all passports)
  • Secondary school leaving certificate and transcript with all subjects and grades/marks listed (detailed information about recognition of foreign academic credentials is available on this page)
  • Where necessary, additional requests and annexes (application for a second degree, hardship, etc.) for NC-restricted programmes

Additional documents may be required depending on specific degree programme requirements. Please be familiar with any specific documents required by the programme you’re applying for before you apply by reading the respective degree programme website.

Now you can log into your account at hochschulstart.de and view all of your applications to degree programmes that are included in the dialogue-oriented service procedure. If you have applied for multiple degree programmes or to multiple universities, you must arrange these applications in your preferred order, placing the university you would most like to attend at the top.

Please note: It is extremely important that you manually arrange your applications in order of priority, otherwise the applications will simply be arranged in chronological order.

Please observe the information about prioritising on this topic at hochschulstart.de.

Offers of admission will presumably be available in your hochschulstart.de account beginning in mid to late July.

Please ensure that you log into your hochschulstart.de account regularly and also regularly check your email inbox. Your hochschulstart.de account will provide you with an overview of all of your offers of admission from different universities.

More information about monitoring your applications is available on hochschulstart.de.

If you have received an offer of admission from the university you wish to attend, you can immediately accept that offer. Or you will receive automatic admission depending on hochschulstart.de’s coordination regulations. In each case, your study place is secure.

However, upon accepting an offer, you will be deemed to have completed the procedure and all other offers of admission and applications submitted within the scope of the dialogue-oriented service procedure will be deleted.

In the event of automatic admission to a degree programme at the Ohm, you will find your admission letter in StudyOhm.

Please be sure to take note of the details of the dialogue-oriented service procedure rules on hochschulstart.de, so that you can receive the admission for the degree programme you prefer.

If you have not received an offer for admission on hochschulstart by the end of the coordination phase, your status will be changed to ‘Rejected’. Hochschulstart will generate a rejection letter for each application with the status ‘rejected’. Rejected applications may be considered in wait-list procedures, if study places remain open.

Please keep official letters in your files, in case you need to present them at a later date (e.g., public authorities). Neither the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg nor hochschulstart will produce duplicates.

Now you simply need to complete your binding enrolment (matriculate) at the Ohm in the degree programme for which you have received an offer of admission that you have accepted online. You will only become a member of the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm, and gain student status once you have enrolled.

You must first submit the ‘Enrollment request’ in StudyOhm. In your StudyOhm applicant account, you can find an overview of your applications (Requests) under Home -> Studies Offered -> Application. Beside the programmes for which you have been offered a study place, you will see the “Request enrollment” button. Click this button to begin the Enrollment request process.

In the last step, you will need to upload any documents required for your programme and submit them. Please ensure that the scans are of high enough quality that the documents are easily legible.

You can interrupt the process and continue uploading documents at a later time. Please note and adhere to the enrolment deadline stated in your admission letter.

If you are still a minor when you request enrolment, you must also submit a declaration of consent from your legal guardians. Please upload this declaration of consent under “Other documents”.

Please note: After submitting documents (clicking the “Submit documents” button), you will no longer be able to change any of the documents.

The staff from the Ohm will provide information in StudyOhm under the section “Information for applicants” if and what additional documents must be submitted.

Following the timely receipt of your documents and once they have been checked and accepted, the university will enrol you. After you are enrolled, you will automatically receive your login information for the university’s IT systems. The login information will be available on the home page of your StudyOhm applicant account a few days after you have been enrolled.

After logging in using your new account information (your student account), you can find your confirmation of enrolment in StudyOhm in the “Studies organisation” section.

After you receive your login, you must upload a profile photo in the VirtuOhm system at the latest 3 weeks before the semester starts so that your student ID card (OHMcard) can be produced. You will receive your OHMcard during the first weeks of the semester from your Faculty.
