A dual study option offers you many advantages and the best career prospects.

In principle, it is possible to have periods of study, academic achievements, professional and training periods, and work experience recognised if they are equivalent.

There are two types of processes

  • Transferring credits from coursework completed at another university
  • Recognition of competence gained outside of academic settings

The examination board of the respective degree programme decides on the equivalence, form, and level of recognition upon request.

More information about transfer credits is available on this website (in German).

You’ve received your admission letter? Congratulations! You have received an offer of admission to study at the Ohm.

You now need to accept the offer by enrolling at the Ohm. (You may also hear the word “Immatrikulation”.) More about the enrolment process is available on this website.

You can take a leave of absence from your studies, in certain circumstances. During a leave of absence, you remain a member of the university and keep your student status.

Examples of reasons for taking a leave of absence are pregnancy, raising a child, to care for another close relative, or to study abroad. More information is available on our intranet pages.

Submit requests for leaves of absence in StudyOhm under the menu point “Formal requests”.

Requests for extensions (or grace periods) can only be considered if there are reasons for the extension for which you are not responsible.

If such a reason occurs, you must submit your written request (preferably digitally) to the Student Office promptly after you become aware of the situation. Email your request (signed and scanned) from your university email account to the Student Office.

The examination board from the respective Faculty takes the decision on your request. If the decision is positive, the deadline will be extended.

You may use this request template, if you like. Further information is available online.

You can request to de-register yourself from the university at any time, including during the current semester. Submit requests for de-registration (exmatriculation) in StudyOhm under the menu point “Formal requests”.

Please provide the reason you are de-registering. (Discontinuation of studies / change of university / other reasons). More information is available on our intranet pages.

Important forms related to studying at the Ohm are available online (e.g. for registering your final thesis, requests to the examination board, ...)

  • Will I be informed by email when instructors publish grades?

In principle, yes. If you have enabled email messages in your StudyOhm settings.

When the status of an exam changes, the portal sends an email to you. In StudyOhm under “Marks/Grades”, you will be able to see your grade.

To find your communication settings in StudyOhm: Click on the hamburger menu on the top left. Service > Personal settings > Manage communication channels.

Note - spam prevetion: There is currently a spam prevention setting in effect in StudyOhm. This prevents you receiving an email for every exam, you receive one email until you log in to the system and have read that message. We recommend that you check for your grades in StudyOhm under “Marks/Grades” regularly.

  • Where can I see if an exam has been graded (the status)?

The “Marks/Grades” quicklink will bring you to the overview of all examinations. To view all of your exams, click on “Expand all” on the top, left above the table.

Status:

“Input is running” = grades are not yet finalised

            “BE” = passed

            “NB” = failed

            “EN” = failed, final attempt

When the grading process, including entering the grades, is complete, the grade, status, and ECTS credits will be displayed in StudyOhm. Another alternative is to scroll to the bottom of the screen and open your Transcript of Records. More information is available in the “Instructions for viewing your transcript“.

  • Grade distributions

Grading statistics are only displayed if more than 20 students sat an exam.

  • Can I see when I can review my exam (“Einsicht”) in StudyOhm?

The scheduled times for reviewing your exams (“Einsichtname-Termine”) are not communicated in StudyOhm. Many examiners use email and some communicate using Moodle, if they have a Moodle course set up. The best idea is to simply ask the examiner directly.

More information about submitting your final thesis is available on our intranet pages (VPN required).

  • Can I submit my thesis when the Student Office is closed?

If you must submit your thesis to the Student Office*, you may submit it by depositing it into the in-house mail box in the KA building (Keßlerplatz campus). Please ensure the envelope is addressed: “z. Hd. Studienbüro”. You can also mail your thesis by post to the Student Office’s mailing address.

*(Some Faculties require you to submit your thesis directly to the respective Faculty)

  • What if the submission deadline for my thesis is on a weekend or a holiday?

Then the thesis must be submitted on the next working day at the latest (§ 193 BGB).

  • What if the student is ill at the time of the submission deadline?

To prevent any negative consequences (a grade of 5), you must submit a request for an extension (grace period) on time. You must also provide a detailed medical certificate (analogous to other deadline extension requests) along with your request, see § 22 of the APO and § 21 of the ASPO.

Would you like to change the name you use at the university? Information about how to change your name is available on our website.

If exams or assessments cannot be performed in the specified manner or within the specified time frame due to an impairment, modified conditions in terms of time and/or format may be granted in certain cases. This applies for all types of assessments during your studies: in particular for examinations, presentations, oral examinations, papers, reports, and final theses.

The specific nature of the disadvantage that is related to the impairment must be examined in each case, as must the ways in which it can be reasonably mitigated.

More information about this is available on this website (in German).

The request must be in the form of a signed letter and submitted to the Student Office by the end of the respective examination registration period at the latest. Submit a scan of the signed request from your university email account.

An overview of the different types of failing grades and their associated consequences in bachelor’s and master’s programmes is available in this pdf.
