Application period for winter semester 2026/27: 2 May to 15 July 2026

You are interested in a bachelor's degree programme taught in German and want to be well prepared for studying in Germany? The Ohm’s “German Math Natural Sciences” pathway programme is ideal for you.

The programme takes two semesters and is designed for international students who have a recognised university entrance qualification (“Hochschulzugangsberechtigung”) and want to pursue a bachelor’s degree in a German-taught programme. It combines intensive language training, solid academic preparation, and comprehensive orientation in the German university environment. An excellent foundation to pursue a degree in Germany, especially in STEM fields

German intensive course

A central element of the programme is German language instruction. Participants complete 16 class hours each week in German, with a strong focus on academic and technical German.
The German courses are designed to enable participants to sit the DSH exam, which is a key requirement for studying at German universities.

Mathematics and science courses

The pathway programme also comprises 12 lecture hours each week in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

To ensure an effective learning experience:

  • These subjects are initially taught in English.
  • With increasing German proficiency, lectures gradually transition to German.
  • Participants experience a structured shift from technical English to technical German.

This approach ensure excellent preparation for technical degree programmes that are taught in German.

Advantages of the programme

Besides subject specific knowledge, the programme emphasises academic and personal skills that are essential for succeeding at German universities. Participants learn:

  • how the German university system works,
  • effective note-taking techniques,
  • how to study in an educational system that requires independence and time management,
  • how to manage the workload typical of technical degree programmes in Germany.

When you apply for the pathway programme, you must also indicate one or more bachelor’s programmes at the Ohm that you are interested in applying for. Your university entrance qualification will be reviewed during the application process for the pathway programme. More detailed information about foreign secondary school leaving certificates is available on our website.

Your admission letter for the pathway programme will include clear answers about your eligibility for admission to the programmes (with no admission restrictions) you indicated in your application.

If you apply for admission to one of these programmes after completing the pathway programme,

  • your academic credentials will not need to be reviewed again.
  • You will only have to provide documentation of your German proficiency at B2 level (CEFR).

The pathway programme allows participants to become adjusted to living in Germany in addition to the academic system. The support from International Academic Services includes counseling about:

  • Administrative procedures with authorities
  • Finding accommodation
  • Organising practical matters before starting a degree programme.

Pathway programme participants are also included in social events and activities at the university. Integration into the university community is much easier and participants are already networked with students in their future degree programme.

During the break between the first and second semesters or after the second semester, participants may find and complete a pre-study internship.

This is a significant advantage for degree programmes that require such an internship.

  • Participants can meet the requirement early and
  • concentrate completely on their academic coursework when they start their programme.

Application process and eligibility requirements

The pathway programme costs 1,990.00 euros per semester.
This includes the “Studierendenwerkbeitrag” (Student Services fee) and fees for the German classes and lectures in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. The fees also cover support and guidance provided by International Academic Services throughout the programme.
The fee does not include the DSH exam, if participants choose to sit the exam, they must pay that fee separately.

Details are described in the regulations governing fees at the Ohm, specifically the “Satzung zur Erhebung von Gebühren und Entgelten an der Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm” (OhmGebEntS) and the “Gebühren-, Auslagen- und Entgeltverzeichnis der Technischen Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm” (OhmGEVz) in their respective current versions. The current versions of the respective documents are available on our website (in German).

Participants in the pathway programme must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • German proficiency at B1 (CEFR) level (the following certificates are accepted: Geothe certificate B1; telc B1, telc B1+Beruf; ÖSD B1; UNIcert Stufe I)
  • University entrance qualification (HZB) for admission to a university of applied sciences
