Description

Large infrastructures such as large-diameter slewing bearings or wind energy plant towers, crane booms, or bridge structures require load and damage monitoring for operation safety. A sensor concept was developed, comprising an innovative combination of robust and flexible polymer-based optical sensor fibres, a specific electronic platform to implement various measurement tasks, and an automated, digitised data evaluation based on machine learning. The concept will be broadly tested in a field test using wind energy plants in various wind parks and then consistently developed for future market introduction. This project combines expertise and value creation from the fibre-optic and electronic system development to digitalised status monitoring to highly-specialised know-how for critical infrastructures and energy supply.
