Tuition fee waivers, reductions, or exemptions for students from countries outside of the EEA

The Ohm aims to administer its collection of tuition fees for students from non-EEA countries in a socially responsible manner. Students have the opportunity to present possible reasons that could justify a tuition reduction or waiver on an individual case basis. Details are described in the regulations governing tuition at the Ohm, specifically the “Satzung zur Erhebung von Gebühren und Entgelten an der Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm” (OhmGebEntS) in its current version.

Tuition fees can be waived under the following conditions:

Waiver for exchange and collaborative offers at the Ohm based on contractual agreements

In these instances, tuition fees will be waived without a request from the participant (“von Amts wegen”).

Waiver due to leave of absence

During leaves of absence, students from non-EEA countries do not have to pay tuition fees. The fees will be waived in conjunction with the decision about the leave of absence. In these instances, tuition fees will be waived without a request from the participant (“von Amts wegen”).

Waiver due to asylum pursuant to § 55 (1) of the Asylum Act (AyslG) concerning individuals who are nationals of a country with a special protection quota of at least 50%

Students entitled to asylum and recognised refugees under the 1951 Geneva Refugee Convention

Waiver for students with a disability that makes their studies considerably more difficult

Other reasons for exemption from tuition fees

  • Persons with a residence permit that entitles them to an educational grant pursuant to §8 para 1 no. 1-4 BAföG
  • Individuals with an established domestic connection
  • Individuals from Switzerland with specific reasons for exemption
  • Individuals from Turkey with specific reasons for exemption
  • Individuals from the United Kingdom with specific reasons for exemption
