The aim of the follow-on Social Work master’s degree programme is to prepare students for professional practice in management roles in the field of social work by teaching them multidisciplinary scientific content and methods and a practice-oriented focus.

The Social Work master’s degree programme is application-oriented, but does not exclude opportunities for research. During the course of the degree programme, students should acquire the ability, thanks to a broad, detailed, and critical understanding in accordance with cutting-edge research, to further improve or expand upon their existing skills as a social worker in order to better identify the problems, needs, and desires of recipients of social services, and to provide them with the best possible assistance.

Approximately one third of students in their first semester have switched after completing a degree at another university in order to complete their master’s degree programme in Nuremberg.

Information on admission

To be able to study in the master’s degree programme in Social Work at Nuremberg Tech, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or “Diplom” degree in Social Work (or comparable) with 210 credits (LP or ECTS) (7 semesters incl. practical semester).
     
    • If you have not earned 210 ECTS credits for your relevant degree, you must provide evidence of the missing credits from the relevant undergraduate course of study at Nuremberg Tech in order to complete the master’s degree. Alternatively, you may be required to provide documentation of successful completion of a relevant internship lasting at least 20 weeks.

  • Final grade of at least 2.0

  • There is currently no selection procedure

  • Required language certificates:

    Instruction in this degree programme is conducted in German. Applicants who are native speakers of a language other than German, who do not have bachelor’s degree from a German educational institution, and who have not completed German-language vocational or professional training at secondary school must provide one of the following certificates as documentation of their German proficiency:

    • German language examination for the university admission of foreign applicants (DSH-Stufe 2)

    • TestDaF (“Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache” with an above-average score (minimally level 4 in all four examination components)

    • Telc German C1 University (“Telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule”)

Please submit copies of certificates/documentation of internships, periods of vocational training, and periods of professional activity in the field of social work. The content of the practical activities, in particular, should be explained and, if necessary, presented on the basis of suitable evidence.
