In the Process control and structure elucidation laboratory, complex product mixtures of organic syntheses or natural substance extractions are analysed for their components. To that end, the laboratory is equipped with a variety of instruments and equipment for gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry.

GC-FID, GC-MS and GC-MS/MS methods for evaporable samples and
HPLC-DAD and HPLC-MS methods for non-volatile and highly polar samples are
available.

The analytical methods are complemented by preparative chromatographic separation methods such as preparative HPLC and automated flash chromatography on normal and reversed phases to separate the complex substance mixtures into their individual components. Once isolated, pure substances can then be analysed using FTIR, NMR spectroscopy and
mass spectrometry.
