I found the International Business and Technology program at the Technische Hochschule Nuremberg to be extremely compelling because of how multifaceted it is. The program includes courses in business, engineering, and language acquisition, which is perfect for students with varied interests. The course also offers students an opportunity to either do a semester, or internship abroad, which amplifies the “international” aspect of IBT. Since, the language of instruction is split between English and German, you are constantly in an international “bubble” even within the University.

At the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (the Ohm), tuition is charged for students from non-EU countries pursuant to Art. 13, para. 3 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG - in German). The tuition fees are 500 euros per semester starting in winter semester 2024/25. All information can be found here.

If you want to enrol in IBT, you will need a university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung - HZB). A HZB confirms that your education has qualified you to study at a German university. Usually, this is your secondary school leaving certificate. But depending on where you went to secondary school, there may be additional requirements (like coursework) or entrance examinations.

Not all foreign school-leaving certificates are equivalent to a German HZB. All foreign academic credentials must be recognised by the Ohm as a university entrance qualification.

There are two ways to request recognition of your foreign academic credentials:

  1. During the application period (2 May - 15 September): Upload your credentials as part of the application process in the Ohm’s online application portal, StudyOhm. No separate request is required.
  2. During the rest of the year (1 October - 30 April): Submit a request for recognition of foreign academic credentials with all required documents. The form for this request will be published here on the website in September.

If you would like to get a general idea of your qualifications are enough for the programme you’re interested in, you can check the anabin database (only available in German) or the DAAD’s database on admission requirements (in German and English).

Information about how foreign academic credentials are recognised at the Ohm and what documents you need to submit.

All international applicants have to prove basic skills in German - at least level A2 completed which corresponds to at least 240 hours of lessons attended - at the time of their application with a certified copy* or an original document.

“Zeugnisanerkennung” at the Ohm (recognition of academic credentials (certificates and diplomas))

If you want to enrol in a bachelor's degree programme in Germany, you will need a university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung - HZB). A HZB confirms that your education has qualified you to study at a German university. Usually, this is your secondary school leaving certificate. But depending on where you went to secondary school, there may be additional requirements (like coursework) or entrance examinations.

Not all foreign school leaving certificates are equivalent to a German HZB. Therefore, all foreign academic credentials must be reviewed and recognised by the Ohm as a university entrance qualification.

There are two ways to request recognition of your foreign academic credentials:

  • During the application period (2 May - 15 September): Upload your credentials as part of the application process in the online application portal, StudyOhm. No separate request is required.
  • During the rest of the year (1 October - 30 April): Submit a request for recognition of foreign academic credentials with all required documents. The form for this request will be published here on the website in September.

The documents you submit with your request must be scanned (in full) and saved in one PDF file. Please be sure the scans are of high quality and legible!

Please note: The evaluation is always based on original documents in the official language. An official translation never substitutes for the original.

Please note that the accreditation of your international certificates of education for the International Business and Technology Program at our university will be reviewed by the Ohm (not uni-assist!).

Check our website from International Academic Services for detailed information.

  • 2 May until 15 July for the following winter semester (1 October) for first semester applicants and transfer applicants
  • 15 November until 15 January for the following summer semester (15 March) for transfer applicants

The following explanations will help you to prepare your application:

1. Registering in the online application portal

Register for an account in StudyOhm. In order to do this, you will need a valid email address to which all future information concerning your application will be sent.

Activate your personal account using the login details that have been sent to you by email.

Please note: Please create only one account – you can use this single registration to apply for all degree programmes within the deadlines.

If you are already enrolled at the Ohm, you do not need to register again. You can use your university login (StudyOhm login)

2. Applying for IBT

In order to do so, you must first log in to StudyOhm (top right-hand side of the page) using the login details that you received when you registered. Then you can apply for admission to the International Business and Technology degree program.

You must upload various documents when you apply in StudyOhm. Please ensure that the scans are of high enough quality that the documents are easily legible.

The following will be required, at least:

  • A CV presented in chronological order and without any gaps, formatted as a table (no photo, include information about the time period you were enrolled in school, including instruction and any training periods, and information about your German language proficiency (e.g. taught hours)
  • Language certificate for German on at least Level A2
  • Passport or personal ID (if you have more than one citizenship, please upload scans of all passports)
  • Secondary school leaving certificate and transcript with all subjects and grades/marks listed (detailed information about recognition of foreign academic credentials is available on this page)

Additional documents (e.g., pre-study internship documents) may be required depending on specific degree programme requirements. Please be familiar with any specific documents required by the programme you’re applying for before you apply

After we have received your application, it will be determined if you meet the formal requirements for admission to the degree programmes you’ve applied for. If you meet the requirements, you will receive an admission letter and can request enrolment to that programme.

Please note: You can apply for more than one programme, but you can only request enrolment into one programme!

On the overview page of your StudyOhm account, your admission letter will be available in your Inbox. Next to this you will see a PDF with important information about enrolment. Read both documents closely. They contain important information about your programme and the requirements for enrolling at the Ohm.

Important: Download your admission letter and keep it in your files. The university does not produce duplicates.

3. Requesting enrolment in the IBT program

After you’ve been offered a study place, you can prepare and submit your request for enrolment in your programme on the StudyOhm platform.

In your StudyOhm account, you can find an overview of your applications (Requests) under Home -> Studies Offered -> Application. If you have been offered a study place at IBT, you will see the “Request enrollment” button. Click this button to begin the “Enrollment request” process.

In the last step, you will need to upload any documents required for your programme and submit them. Please ensure that the scans are of high enough quality that the documents are easily legible.

You can interrupt the process and continue uploading documents at a later time. Please note and adhere to the enrolment deadline stated in your admission letter.

If you are still a minor when you request enrolment, you must also submit a declaration of consent from your legal guardians. Please upload this declaration of consent under “Other documents”.

Please note: After submitting documents (clicking the “Submit documents” button), you will no longer be able to change any of the documents.

The staff from the Ohm will provide information in StudyOhm under the section “Information for applicants” if and what additional documents must be submitted.

4. Confirmation of enrolment and student ID card

Following the timely receipt of your documents and once they have been checked and accepted, the university will enrol you. After you are enrolled, you will automatically receive your login information for the university’s IT systems. The login information will be available on the home page of your StudyOhm applicant account a few days after you have been enrolled.

After logging in using your new account information (your student account), you can find your confirmation of enrolment in StudyOhm in the “Studies organisation” section.

After you receive your login, you must upload a profile photo in the VirtuOhm system at the latest 3 weeks before the semester starts so that your student ID card (OHMcard) can be produced. You will receive your OHMcard during the first weeks of the semester from your Faculty.

Applicants who have already been studying at another university have the opportunity to apply for admission to a higher semester under the following conditions:
