Welcome and research agenda

Welcome to the Sensorimotor Processing, Intelligence, and Control in Edge Computing Systems (SPICES) Lab, led by Prof. Cristian Axenie. We are a cognitive neurocomputing systems research laboratory in the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (the Ohm) in Germany.
The SPICES lab was established in conjunction with the Professorship for Artificial Intelligence for Heterogeneous Sensory Data under the prestigious High-Tech Agenda Bayern.

Research agenda
The SPICES lab focuses on the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of closed-loop cognitive neurocomputing systems. Algorithmically, we specialise in neural network learning algorithms for multi-sensory fusion, cognitive computing, and intelligent control.
At te data source level, we model, process, and fuse traditional as well as neuromorphic (event-based) sensor data. Robustness and fault-tolerance is a key ingredient in our designs rooted in neurocomputing and cognitive systems. We deploy our algorithms on energy-efficient compute systems, from embedded devices to edge devices, with a clear focus on green, scalable, and sustainable learning and inference.
