The Department of Polymer Chemistry and Plastics Engineering

The Department of Polymer Chemistry and Plastics Engineering at the Faculty of Applied Chemistry is your point of contact for all questions relating to polymers. We have many years of experience in the field of research, development, and damage analysis of plastic products and all associated precursors, and can provide you with active support thanks to our expertise.

Our goals

We strive to support the polymer-producing and plastics-processing industry, especially in the Nuremberg metropolitan region, in achieving its individual goals. We also cooperate with partners from all over Europe.

Our work is always in line with the overarching goal of combining sustainability and polymer sciences.

In research, we are primarily active in the areas of chemical recycling, fiber-reinforced plastics, and 3D printing with cross-linked polymer systems (thermosets), thereby supporting the aviation and automotive industry, as well as the construction sector and medical technology, in the implementation of innovative ideas.

Specific Goals of our Research Projects

  • Recycling plastics to reduce waste and conserve resources
  • Bio-based or waste-based plastics as an alternative to plastics based on fossil resources
  • High-strength plastics for lightweight construction for energy-efficient mobility
  • New resin systems for 3D printing for resource-saving processing

Specific Goals of our Development Projects

  • Customized developments to improve existing products
  • Damage analyses for quality assurance
