An empirical analysis of the effect of autonomous writing groups on final projects

Many students have problems with academic writing and suffer from being left alone to struggle with writing tasks. In contrast to doctoral candidates, who often form writing groups to support each other in their writing, students seldom form writing groups. The Writing Center of Nuremberg Tech initiates and researches independent writing groups for students. The effect of these groups on students’ writing skills will be investigated. Furthermore, a concept for establishing and supporting independent academic writing groups will be developed. Based on these results, materials for teachers, university academics, and writing experts who wish to initiate such groups will be developed.
