Senior Citizens' Cooperatives – A supply model for the future?

How do we want to live in old age? How can we live in old age?

In the last 120 years, life expectancy in Germany has almost doubled. Family structures have also changed considerably at the same time. On the one hand, most old people want to live in their own homes for as long as possible, but on the other hand, it will become increasingly difficult to support daily care services. A greater degree of professional mobility, divorces, childlessness, and a rise in the number of people living alone mean that older people will become increasingly dependent on even more support from outside of their own family in the future.

Senior cooperatives form one potential solution. These are bindingly organised associations of people who guarantee reciprocal support services for one another and thus contribute to quality of life in old age.
