Chemical process engineering and the establishment of process facilities and energy installations have traditionally been held in very high esteem in Germany. The increasingly stringent requirements with regard to energy efficiency, preservation of resources and environmental protection are making process engineering tasks ever more demanding.

Alongside project and management skills, the Chemical Process Engineering and Process Technology master’s degree programme will broaden your knowledge of core subjects in the fields of process engineering and energy technology and will increase your level of expertise by means of multidisciplinary subjects and electives with a view to equipping you with the expertise you will need in order to find solutions for interdisciplinary assignments in your future professional career.
The Master of Engineering, which follows on from a bachelor’s or Diplom programme, is an internationally recognized qualification that will allow you to take on management or senior civil service roles (qualification level 4) or to go on to complete a doctorate at a German or international university.

Unlike many other degree programs in this field, the Chemical Process Engineering and Process Technology master’s degree programme is based on a broad basic education in process engineering, energy process engineering, or technical chemistry. No matter where your strengths lie – in mechanical, thermal, or chemical process engineering or in specialist fields such as environmental technology, energy process engineering, or even biological process engineering – we offer an interesting professional development programme for every interest. A basic prerequisite is a solid foundation in the basic technical subjects.

Information on admission

To be admitted to the master's degree programme in Chemical Process Engineering and Process Technology, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering or Energy Process Engineering (as of WS 2016/17) or Technical Chemistry (or comparable degrees in each case) with 210 ECTS (equivalent to 7 semesters of study including one practical semester). For applicants with a completed university degree or an equivalent degree for which between 180 and 210 credits were awarded, the conditions specified in the Study and Examination Regulations under Section 3 (3) apply.

Your bachelor’s degree must have been awarded a grade of 2.5 or higher, or you must have graduated among the top 50% of your bachelor’s programme, according to your comparative cohort. If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree programme at the time of applying, special conditions apply to your provisional grade, which can be found in the Study and Examination Regulations

For applicants with at least two years of post-bachelor’s work experience, your bachelor’s degree grade must be 3.0 or higher, or you must have graduated in the top 65% of your bachelor’s degree cohort.

Documentation of required language proficiency:

Instruction in this degree programme is conducted in German. Applicants who are native speakers of a language other than German, who do not have bachelor’s degree from a German educational institution, and who have not completed German-language vocational or professional training at secondary school must provide one of the following certificates as documentation of their German proficiency:

  • German language examination for the university admission of foreign applicants (DSH-Stufe 2)

  • TestDaF (“Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache” with an above-average score (minimally level 4 in all four examination components)
  • Telc German C1 University (“Telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule”)
