Research and development at OHM-CMP – a long-standing, yet still innovative, tradition

Nuremberg Institute of Technology has a long-standing tradition of research and development, as was made clear by its founding rector, Georg Simon Ohm.

OHM-CMP came into being in 2015 following a merger of three of Nuremberg Tech’s competence centers, which had already been performing applied research and development for a number of years:

These competence centers were established in 2010 using funds provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and, over the following years, successfully established themselves in their research areas and became particularly sought after as research partners. In 2015, within the scope of a strategic review, it was established that a merger of the three competence centers could bring about significant synergy effects, since the areas of activity of all three were moving towards the same fields: product development, new materials, and processes.

The new Institute for Chemistry, Materials and Product Development was therefore founded in the autumn of 2015 and the three competence centers all continue to work under this one roof.
