In the area of smart transportation planning, Prof. Harald Kipke and his team are carrying out interdisciplinary research into the economic and ecological aspects of transportation and settlement structures in major metropolitan areas, into issues of local mobility, and into the controlling of traffic behaviour.

In the "PedeListics" project, Prof. Ralf Bogdanski and his team are designing smarter and more environmentally friendly traffic systems in Nuremberg, Erlangen, Regensburg, and Landshut through the commercial use of load-carrying bicycles. Within the inner city and Südstadt of Nuremberg, two CEP services have replaced a portion of their delivery fleet with load-carrying bicycles powered by electric motors.
