Twin Transformation in Business: Digitalization and Sustainable Management in the Circular Economy

With the growing economic integration of companies globally, their area of responsibility for the ecological, social and human rights impacts associated with their activities are part of discussions in societies and politics. Transparency, traceability and compliance with sustainability standards are requirements that future oriented companies have to address.

The course provides a specific focus on the aspects of twin transformation: The needs of integrated digital processes in companies and the challenge to address sustainable solutions in production and product innovation to achieve the goals of a circular economy.

This summer school course will address the following topics:

  • Sustainable management in the new era of transparency
  • Innovation management and the challenges of circular economy
  • Data readiness, data management in the field of sustainability – from company perspectives to value chain solutions
  • Digital solutions and approaches in the circular economy

The course includes one or two excursions.

Course is designed for: bachelor’s students in their third year, master’s students, and graduates.

Prof. Dr.

Frank Ebinger holds the Professorship of Sustainability-oriented Innovation and Transformation Management at the Nuremberg Campus of Technology (NCT) of the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (the Ohm) and is an associate professor at the Addis Abeba Institute of Technology. His research interest lies in different fields of sustainability-oriented transformation, sustainable supply chain management, and transparency for sustainability. Prof. Ebinger is an executive board member of the German EMAS Advisory Board (UGA) at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection and a member of the working group of the National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. Between the years 2012 and 2014, Prof. Ebinger was a Programme Director of the bilateral international development programme “Promotion of Sustainable Economic Development, Kyrgyzstan”, commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation. In the years between 2008 and 2012 he was the advisor to the Ethiopian Minister of Science and Technology in the field of the bilateral international development programme “National Quality Infrastructure Component”, in the GIZ Engineering Capacity Building Programme, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation. Prof. Ebinger has more than 25 years of experience as a lecturer, consultant, and advisor in the field of sustainable management and innovation. In addition, he worked more than 15 years in the context of international research and international development cooperation within the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and as an external consultant.
