Annual Conference 2024 of the EUCO: “Future” in business and corporate communication

The 24th interdisciplinary annual conference of the European research cooperation EUCO (European Cultures in Business and Corporate Communication) will take place at the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm from Thursday until Saturday, 24 - 26 October 2024. EUCO 2024 is being organized by the AMP Faculty and is supported by the Friends of the Faculty. The annual conference is aimed at researchers and students as well as practitioners from different disciplines, bringing together their research results and best practice examples under a common set of topics. Papers will be presented in either German or English.

The conference topic at EUCO 2024 will be:
“Progress, Innovation, Vision – Scenarios, Images, Metaphors and Linguistic Concepts of the Future in Business Communication. An interdisciplinary reflection.”

Brief Description:

For companies as well as associations, think tanks, policy makers or in general actors who express, position or are addressed in economic discourses, the reference to future developments of one's own organization, the future of industries or the economy, the socio-technical futures in the societal discourse as well as the forecasts, scenarios and roadmaps of political actors plays an increasingly important role. In order to be attractive to junior staff, to be able to retain one's core staff and to expect loyalty from them, actors in business discourses must represent and communicate their perspectives of the future visually, narratively, stylistically. In view of the different facets of the current polycrises, a mere reference to an established narrative of progress seems outmoded and rather counterproductive.

All players in business discourses are challenged to adapt and expand their communication strategies, channels, styles and content in the competition for communication and in addressing the various stakeholders. Visions of the future and future viability, the communication of innovations, the proof of one's own ability to relate to the stakeholders, and also the communicative framing of desired developments in the economy by politics are required.

EUCO 2024 is dedicated to the changes in the discourses of business, companies and actors, which are expressed in new or adapted visual languages, stylistics, forms of commentary, narratives or methods and channels. Theory-oriented or empirical contributions from linguistics, marketing or public relations, communication studies, innovation and futurology, or the social sciences are sought. Contributions from the practice of companies, associations, politics are also welcome.

The contributions of the EUCO 2024 will be published as conference proceedings with a peer-review process in the publication series of the same name of the network "European Cultures in Business Communication" (Springer VS):

Since 2001 the research network EUCO is a research network of language and communication scholars from Denmark, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands and Switzerland. All participating scholars share an interest in intercultural promotional and business communication. The EUCO organizes an annual international and interdisciplinary conference at different universities in Europe. The conferences focus on different topics from the practice and research of advertising and business communication.
