Further information about EZProxy

Shibboleth is used with your my.ohm login) and the individual e-media providers. The e-media providers receive the information that a valid request from a university member has been placed, for an e-book for example, and therefore access to the media can be granted.

EZProxy is a convenient alternative to the VPN to be able to use the library’s online offerings from your home. There is no need to install additional software, for example. To login, you will use your my.ohm user information.

After you log in, you can see whether it worked by looking at the URL. After the actual URL, you will see thn.idm.oclc.org, for example, link-springer-com.thn.idm.oclc.org"

There are no special technical requirements. EZProxy works independently of browsers and operating systems.

JavaScript, pop-ups, and cookies, however, must be permitted by your web browser (the standard settings of current browsers are usually enough).

The most common error source is old browser cookies. Therefore, if you have problems with EZProxy, first delete the cookies in your browser, close the browser, open the browser, and try again. Changing browsers (e.g. Mozilla Firefox instead of Mozilla) can also help.

Sometimes there are difficulties, if the security options in a browser are set “too strict”, e.g., if cookies are generally rejected. You will then have to explicitly permit EZProxy cookies in the settings.

EZProxy is being introduced gradually. That means some of our electronic media are still only accessible off campus by using the VPN.

However, some databases and e-journals use other options (e.g. individual registration), which is the same as prior to the introduction of EZProxy, or can only be used on campus. Therefore, please note the information provided for each individual database (in DBIS) and e-journals (in EZB).
