Das Erasmus Programm

Das Hochschulprogramm Erasmus, eine der großen Erfolgsgeschichten der Europäischen Union, fördert seit 1987 grenzüberschreitende Mobilität von Studierenden, Lehrenden und Beschäftigten in Europa.
Erasmus ist das neue Programm für Bildung, Jugend und Sport der Europäischen Union. In Erasmus werden die bisherigen EU-Programme für lebenslanges Lernen, Jugend und Sport sowie die europäischen Kooperationsprogramme im Hochschulbereich zusammengefasst.
Das Programm enthält drei Leitaktionen:
Leitaktion 1 – Lernmobilität von Einzelpersonen
Leitaktion 2 – Zusammenarbeit zur Förderung von Innovation und zum Austausch von bewährten Verfahren
Leitaktion 3 – Unterstützung politischer Reformen

Das auf sieben Jahre ausgelegte Programm soll Kompetenzen und Beschäftigungsfähigkeit verbessern und die Modernisierung der Systeme der allgemeinen und beruflichen Bildung und der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe voranbringen. Mit den Fördermitteln wird vor allem die Mobilität in Europa und in geringerem Umfang auch mit anderen Teilen der Welt gestärkt. Einbezogen werden dabei Studierende in allen Studienzyklen bis einschließlich der Promotion, die ein Teilstudium oder Praktikum im Ausland absolvieren möchten. Erstmals können die Studierenden dabei im Bachelor, Master und Doktorat jeweils bis zu 12 Monate gefördert werden. Um den finanziellen Anreiz für einen Auslandsaufenthalt zu erhöhen, wird zudem der monatliche Mobilitätszuschuss für die Studierenden angehoben, insbesondere für Gastländer mit höheren Lebenshaltungskosten. Praktika im Ausland sind künftig auch nach Studienabschluss möglich. 

Erasmus trägt zudem zur weiteren Internationalisierung der Hochschulen mit der Förderung von Kurzzeitdozenturen und Weiterbildungsaufenthalten für das Lehr- bzw. Verwaltungspersonal bei.
Die Hochschulen können Unternehmenspersonal aus dem Ausland zu Lehraufenthalten einladen und sich nun außerdem mit anderen europäischen Partnern (auch aus dem nicht-akademischen Bereich) an multilateralen Strategischen Partnerschaften beteiligen und gemeinsam innovative Projekte entwickeln.

Durch das Erasmus Programm werden u.a. folgende Mobilitätsmaßnahmen gefördert:

Folgende Mitgliedstaaten der EU nehmen an Erasmus teil:
Belgien, Bulgarien, Dänemark, Deutschland, Estland, Finnland, Frankreich, Griechenland, Irland, Italien, Kroatien, Lettland, Litauen, Luxemburg, Malta, Niederlande, Österreich, Polen, Portugal, Rumänien, Schweden, Slowakei, Slowenien, Spanien, Tschechische Republik, Ungarn und Zypern.

Teilnehmende Erasmus Programmländer außerhalb der EU:
Island, Liechtenstein, Nordmazedonien, Norwegen, Serbien, und die Türkei .

Allgemeine Teilnahme- und Förderbedingungen
Hochschuleinrichtungen, die sich an Erasmus-Aktivitäten beteiligen möchten, müssen über eine Erasmus-Hochschulcharta (ECHE) verfügen.
Mit der Charta soll die Programmqualität durch bestimmte Grundprinzipien gewährleistet werden.
Die Erasmus Universitätscharta (EUC) wird von der EU-Kommission vergeben. Sie beweist, dass eine Hochschule alle Voraussetzungen für eine erfolgreiche Teilnahme am Erasmus-Programm erfüllt.

Sonderförderungen
Personen mit Behinderungen können einen Zuschuss für Mehrkosten im Rahmen eines Erasmus-Aufenthalts erhalten. Dies gilt für alle Erasmus-Mobilitätslinien (Studium, Praktika, Mobilität zu Unterrichtszwecken und Mobilität zu Fort- und Weiterbildungszwecken).

Erasmus - Studierendenmobilität
Das Herzstück des Erasmus Programms - der studienbezogene Auslandsaufenthalt - ermöglicht Studierenden ein Erasmus Studium und/oder Erasmus Praktikum bis zu 12 Monaten in einem der teilnehmenden Länder.

Die EPS beschreibt in aller Kürze die Kooperationsstrategie der Technichen Hochschule Nürnberg im Rahmen des Erasmus Programms (Erasmus+ 2014-2020).

The Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (THN) is one of the internationally oriented universities in Southern Germany. Its profile is distinctly international with 160 partnerships with institutions of higher education worldwide, Bachelor- and Masterprograms taught in English, and about 1.200 foreign students coming from more than 96 nations. In the future, THN wants to pursue a concept of internationalization with different project lines to enhance student-, teaching staff and administrative staff mobility:

By strengthening the international dimension of teaching we want to make THN more attractive for teaching staff from partner universities and expose our students to international teaching concepts. To achieve this goal THN will develop an English-language guest lectureship program and a “Visiting Professorship” with all the necessary welcome-structures. We want to make THN even more attractive for international students. Regarding the competitive position of the European education sector in comparison to non-European study places we want to enhance our foreign students´ satisfaction with their stay and their studies, which is very high already, even more. To that aim, we offer programs which support the foreign students´ learning skills and inform potential future students about THN while they are still in their home countries. We also have a contact person for “degree seeking international students” who offers assistance and special support. With the program “Study-based Practice International” THN wants to use its close links with local and international economic enterprises to offer students more places for voluntary and compulsory industrial internships abroad. Our program “International Dual Studies” provides students from our partner institutions with the opportunity to take part in internship or master programs which are financed by enterprises, and even to be employed by a German firm. With the program “International Classroom” we aim at primarily opening up master programs for international students and providing those programs with contents taught in English. To support its goals in internationalization in the European context THN will mainly use “Erasmus +” for the advancement of student - (all cycles), teaching - and administrative staff mobility. The committee for international relations which reports directly to the university´s Board of Directors supervises and steers our goals in internationalization. The enhancement of student mobility is at the center of the development of partnerships. It is the declared aim of the university to enable ever more students to pass an accredited study- or internship phase abroad. In return, we want to offer students from partner institutions the possibility to participate in innovative, research-oriented developments at Energy Campus Nürnberg and institutes of THN in the future. The selection and assessment of new university partners is carried out by a coordinated effort of the university´s board of directors, the liaison professors, and the International Office. When selecting a partner, criteria like geographic orientation, capacity for mobility, academic level and internationality of the partner, as well as a long-term perspective for the partnership are at the focus of the attention. All mobility processes have gone through a quality management procedure with assessed
process descriptions. Apart from our core partnerships in countries like Spain and France THN wants to put a new emphasis on partnerships in Northern and Eastern Europe. We also want to establish mobilities with smaller countries like Slovenia and Macedonia and with potential EU-accession countries like Turkey. In addition, we want to complement our wide overseas network with universities in BRICS-countries and in Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan.

THN intends to secure a diverse and high quality of mobility activities for all participants of the program – students, teaching- and administrative staff. Therefore, we want to use intensive programs and third country programs of the EU to expand strategic co-operations and knowledge alliances in the future. Already, THN has developed manifold forms of co-operation with partners from overseas – amongst them educational partnerships, practice co-operations or post-graduate partnerships – and also wants to open up new options for international mobilities with a multifaceted network of partners within Europe.

The Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences Nürnberg was promoted by the Bavarian Ministry of Science to a Technical University in 2013. This change in status will create new opportunities for internationalization. The formulated goals of THN correlate in many aspects with the five priorities of the agenda for modernization of the EU-commission. For example, to cover Europe´s need for academics the university has already opened up to applicants with atypical educational biographies. A newly installed center of excellence “Gender and Diversity” aims primarily at supporting disadvantaged and socially deprived groups before and during their studies, but also at creating intercultural offers together with the Language Center. A new quality management in teaching will aim at reducing the drop-out rate of international students. The goal of a new support program which was established by the ministry of science, the university and local enterprises, is to provide foreign students with a financed study and practice semester with the possibility even to get employed by a German firm. THN has very close links with the chamber of commerce and industry and local enterprises because of its high emphasis on practice. Because of their role as future employers these enterprises are involved in the development of all innovative study programs, including international qualifications taught in English. The university offers a wide variety of teaching formats ranging from part-time studies to co-operative programs of work and study and electronic learning. In the future, we want to use virtual teaching platforms even more. The university tries to recruit highly talented people from all over the world and wants to strengthen the importance of the EU as a location for studies and research. A benchmark test amongst 28 German universities about foreign students´ satisfaction with their stay ranked THN number 2, a position we want to improve even more. Our university´s Career Service has already organized application trainings and job placement tools for international students. In the future, THN wants to open the German employment market even more for international partners. THN offers its students a wide range of course-related and approved international experiences to improve their cross-cultural and course-related skills. THN wants to increase the range of financing possibilities outside of EU-programs. The newly installed Energy Campus strengthens the knowledge triangle of academic education, research and economy to a great extent and opens it up for international teaching as well as educational and research activities. The Energy Campus is an important location factor of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Area. THN will continue to provide a fixed budget for internationalization activities consisting of equity capital and third-party funds and stipulate specific target agreements together with the ministry of science.
