The increasing dynamism and complexity of innovation requires academic institutions and the commercial sector to work closely together and to have access to knowledge that lies outside of their own area of work.

When the first Agreed Objectives were negotiated with the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and the Arts (Science and the Arts in Bavaria), Nuremberg Institute of Technology undertook to bring competences in areas such as logistics, energy engineering, or nanotechnology and finance, which transcend Faculties, together within interdisciplinary competence centers.
