The university’s Business Development Office is available to all students, employees, and alumni of the university and provides advice and support on setting up your own company. Our services include:

  • Providing advice on all matters throughout the start-up process, from idea to business concept evaluation and funding options
  • Applying to funding programmes for innovative business concepts in cooperation with the Center for Knowledge and Technology Transfer (ZWTT)
  • Connecting you with network partners
  • Providing information on start-up and ideas contests

EXIST Business Start-up Grant

The EXIST Business Start-up Grant is a funding programme run by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. It supports students, graduates and researchers in making their innovative and economically promising technological and knowledge-based business ideas a reality. Applications can be submitted at any time.

EXIST Transfer of Research

The EXIST Transfer of Research, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, supports research-based start-up projects run by research teams at universities and extramural research institutions that involve expensive and high-risk development. The programme is broken down into two funding phases. The submission periods for project outlines run from 1-31 January and 1-31 July each year.

FLÜGGE

The FLÜGGE programme run by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economics and Media, Energy and Technology supports innovative business ideas in the pre-start-up phase developed by university graduates and employees. Applicants must have the firm intention of founding a company at the end of the funding phase.

Businessplan Wettbewerb Nordbayern [Northern Bavarian Business Plan Competition]

The Businessplan Wettbewerb Nordbayern, set up by BayStartUP, is aimed at business founder teams across Northern Bavaria. The competition involves three phases, over the course of which a business plan and funding plan for the start-up project are developed. Each phase includes a round of feedback from an experienced panel and a prize for the best team.

Science4Life Venture Cup

This is a Germany-wide business plan competition in the areas of life sciences, chemistry, and energy, i.e. for start-up projects from the agro, biotechnology, chemistry, health, materials science/nanotechnology, medical engineering, pharma, and environmental technology/renewable energies industries.

Gründerwettbewerb - Digitale Innovationen [Start-up competition – Digital Innovations]

This is a start-up competition held by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy for exciting and promising start-up ideas from the information and communication technology sector. The competition has two phases and takes place every six months. starting on 1 July and 2 January each year.

If you have any questions about setting up your own business, please contact our business development ambassadors in their respective faculties. These are professors whose personal dedication can be harnessed to help foster your independence and entrepreneurship. To this end, they provide information within their faculties regarding the services, events, and competitions on offer to support you in developing your own business. In addition, they offer initial tips on business start-up issues and put you in contact with the Business Development Office.
