Project idea "Bioeconomics in school newspapers" awarded 10,000 euros

11 February 2020

As part of the Science Year 2020 - Bioeconomy, in the university competition "Show your research" 15 ideas for the sustainable restructuring of the economy were awarded 10,000 euros each. Among the winning teams are also students in Nuremberg Tech's Journalism of Technology degree programme with their project idea "Bioecomics in school newspapers". The teams can use the prize money to implement their concepts. The university competition is organized annually by the initiative "Wissenschaft im Dialog" (WiD) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. For the competition, the editors of the student blog, befootec, submitted a concept for cooperating with school newspapers and school radio stations in the metropolitan region. The editors of befootec will support the young journalists of the student media in research and journalistic productions on science and technology topics. In line with the Science Year 2020, the focus will be on aspects of bioeconomics. To this end, the students intend to organize workshops with student editorial offices in which research and journalistic forms of presentation from blog articles to podcasts will be applied. "The results will then be published in student newspapers or student radio stations, but also on," said Pascal Schöpf, one of the chief editors of befootec. Prof. Volker Banholzer, head of the Journalism of Technology degree programme, is particularly pleased about the selection of the project in "Wissenschaft im Dialog", as the blog project was already nominated last year for the "Blogger of the Year" competition. "The sponsorship within the framework of the Science Year 2020 and last year's nomination for the 'Blogger of the Year' are a recognition of the students who show outstanding commitment on befootec's editorial team," says Prof. Volker Banholzer. was created a few years ago on the initiative of Prof. Volker Banholzer in cooperation with the Nuremberg trade fair Brau Beviale and the automation provider SEW Eurodrive from Bruchsal. The name of the blog is composed of the main topics: Beverage, Food, Technology. After the joint launch, the students continued the blog as an independent student project. Here, students of technical journalism / technical PR can gain journalistic and editorial experience throughout their time as students at Nuremberg Tech; the latest innovation is podcast formats.
