Inauguration of the research rooms at the Faculty of Applied Chemistry

21 February 2020

Microbiology deals with microscopically small organisms. Of particular interest are the microalgae that carry out photosynthesis and thus have a high potential for the bioeconomy. In rder to further advance research in this area at Nuremberg Tech, the Laboratory for microbiology of the Faculty of Applied Chemistry has now been inaugurated. Prof. Irmtraud Horst is head of the laboratory and conducts research on microalgae, among other things. For example, she is investigating their growth on wastewater from the food industry so that the wastewater is freed from nitrate. Microalgae can simultaneously synthesize high-value products and bulk chemicals.
