Citavi licence expiring on 31 July 2022

15 June 2022

Our licence for Citavi will end on 31 July 2022, i.e., as of 1 August, the university will no longer offer Citavi.

The reference management program, Citavi, was used successfully by many of you (for years by some). However, the company that published Citavi was sold some time ago and the transition to new management has led to some negative developments: Not only has the support suffered greatly, but problems using the program have also become more common. Furthermore, this year various universities have received drafts of licence agreements that were rejected as unacceptable. Despite repeated requests, we have not received a new contract to date.

As good as it has been with Citavi over nearly ten years, it has become just as bad. Campus licences at other universities have also not been extended due to the reasons listed above. And under the current circumstances we also do not see any way to continue with a licence for Citavi. That means as of 1 August 2022 Nuremberg Tech will no longer have a Citavi campus licence.
Please safeguard your Citavi projects in good time before this date. As of August, we will only provide training for the open source program, Zotero. This reference management program is web-based and therefore, in contrast to Citavi, also suitable for mac and Linux users.

We will provide support for transferring projects and files from Citavi to Zotero, so you will be able to continue using your files. We have created a guide (“Anleitung, in German”) to explain how you can import your data into Zotero. In addition, we are offering special relocation sessions during which we can assist you in transferring your projects and Zotero training workshops for all interested individuals. The currently scheduled dates of the sessions are available online; this list is regularly updated.

If you have any other questions or problems, please send an email to teaching-library[at] or register for a Zotero consultation in the anny system.
