Bugbot is a fully autonomous, mobile robot with six legs. The development of the Bugbot dates back to 2017. The aim was to provide a hardware package, mechanical platform, and software platform that could be used to investigate essential processes of mobile robotics, especially in connection with arthropods (creepy crawlies). Since then, components required for complex movement control with formalized gaits, for environmental modelling, navigation, and path planning, have become available. A 3D physical simulation allows researchers to test software components under realistic conditions.
