Support for balancing family, working, and studying

In 2005 Nuremberg Institute of Technology was the first state university in Bavaria to be audited in the berufundfamilie programme of the not-for-profit Hertie-Stiftung; in 2017 the university went through its fourth audit in the programme. In June 2015 Nuremberg Tech signed the Familie in der Hochschule charter and joined the organization’s Best Practice Club. Signing the charter shows Nuremberg Tech’s commitment to fulfilling its ambitious standards as a family-friendly university. Balancing family, working, and studying is a continuous goal as well as an informing characteristic of our university. Nuremberg Tech’s University Service for Diversity and Occupational Health (Hochschulservice für Familie, Gleichstellung und Gesundheit, HSFGG) is charged with pursuing this goal and with developing appropriate measures for our campus.

The HSFG is the port of call for Nuremberg Tech’s students, faculty, and staff in all questions related to work-life balance. Parents as well as parents-to-be can call on the HSFGG with questions about child care or financing university studies. University members with dependents who require care can also come to us with their questions and concerns. Besides individual counseling, the University Service for Diversity and Occupational Health provides various programmes ranging from school-holiday childcare programmes to talks on eldercare. Further information about HSFGG programmes is available in German: if you are a student, click on the tile below on the left; if you are a member of staff, click on the tile on the right.

The HSFG values close collaboration with academic activities on campus, for example, in the framework of projects. Interns are regularly placed and supervised at the HSFGG.

***The Maternity Protection Act (Mutterschutzgesetz) applies to students who are pregnant or nursing. More information is available on our website. ***
