Further information about the user regulations is available on the following pages.

The library’s collection is  not freely accessible . Media that you require must be ordered in OPAC. Please restrict your orders to absolutely necessary materials. A maximum of 10 titles may be ordered per person (university members and FOM-members). External users may also order media from our collection, however, depending on their status only 3-5 items at a time.

Media can be picked-up (excepting interlibrary loan items) two working days after the order is placed. (Example: Ordered on Monday, pick-up on Wednesday.)   You will find the titles that can be collected on the pick-up shelf. These can then be checked out in the usual way via the self-service stations.

Pick-up times are always Monday to Friday from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm; please note the information associated with the opening hours.

For first-year students who can not normally use their OHMcard (due to an incorrectly printed barcode) at the self-service stations: a special self-service station has been set up so that you can enter your library number (on the back of the OHMcard) on the screen. You must also enter your password (preset as the day and month of your birth, DDMM). The station is labelled appropriately.

Interlibrary loan items are available for a period of two weeks for pick-up as of the date stated in your pick-up message; these items will also be on the pick-up shelf. They also need to be checked out via the self-service stations.

A non-validated OHMcard will also work to borrow materials.

Returns can also be checked in as usual via the self-service stations. It is also possible to return media to the library in the mail (post) .

Laptop loans

It is possible to lend laptops. Please reserve a laptop using OPAC.  When a laptop is ready for you to pick-up, you will receive a separate email that includes the process for borrowing the laptop.

Laptops can be returned during set times (on Tuesdays 10.00 - 11.00 am and Fridays 1.00 - 2.00 pm) without an appointment. Returns should be brought to room KL.001.

Reserve shelves/labs

Reserve book collections on order and media for laboratories will also continue to be sent by internal mail.

Returning media (for students who are in quarantine)

If media must be returned (can no longer be renewed), but cannot be personally returned due to being in quarantine, there are the following possibilities: a third-party can return the item(s) or they can be mailed via post. If neither of these options are possible, please contact us via email (bibliothek@th-nuernberg).

Please take note of the following rules when borrowing or returning media:
  • Please register your contact details via  VirtuOhm ; non-members of the university will need to complete a form at the entrance. You will not be permitted to enter unless you have registered.
  • Please observe the maximum number of people permitted in the library as indicated by the signs on the walls and the generally accepted social distancing rules (minimum distance of 1.5 metres)
  • An FFP2 mask must be worn.

As is usual, it is possible to renew a loan five times in your OPAC user account (exceptions apply to special media like laptops and locker keys, interlibrary loans, media that have one-week loan periods, etc.), if the item in question has not been requested by another user. Renewals are possible five days before the due date.
New in the system: the first renewal is automatic, but you have to carry out subsequent renewals yourself. As mentioned above, this automatic renewal can only occur, if the item has not been requested by another user.

The library’s reading rooms must remain closed until further notice.
Therefore, the study areas are also not accessible, nor the shelves (with the exception of the pick-up shelf for ordered and reserved media).

Nonetheless, the following instructions and rules must be followed:

Please be aware of the due dates for the items you borrow. Either renew the loan of borrowed items or return them. You can return items at the return terminals in the foyer of the KL building ; the terminals are accessible during the times the buildings at Location K are open . Items that are overdue will be recalled subject to fees.

Fees that are accrued can be paid using your OHMcard at one of the debit terminals on campus, including in the library. You can also request the bank information for a bank transfer by emailing (bibliothekatth-nuernbergPunktde).

Interlibrary loan services are again available for university and FOM members without restriction.
Interlibrary loan copies that arrive after 27 January 2021 will be sent to you as a pdf attachment via email due to a licencing exception (limited until 31 July 2021). In some cases, copies may need to be picked up in paper form (in an envelope) from the library’s pick-up shelf or sent via in-house mail. Until 31 March 2021, no nominal fees will be charged in any cases. Books remain available for two weeks for pick-up.
Please note that the pick-up deadline displayed in your OPAC account is not correctly shown! Due to the system, correct deadlines cannot be displayed currently.

There may still be delivery delays due to lockdown closures for libraries.

In this regard, please note the Information about borrowing/returns  for media from our collection, as interlibrary loan books must also be checked out and returned using the self-service stations.

An alternative to interlibrary loan is  SUBITO.. Please note, though, that subito orders are usually more expensive than interlibrary loans.

Please check for current developments on this website.

If you have any questions, we would be pleased to assist you via telephone or email.

With over 410,000 eBooks, 133,000 eJournals and numerous databases, the library now has a larger collection of electronic media than printed media. This means that we are able to provide you with literature even in these times.

All electronic items can be found in OPAC or on our website.

Among other things, the "Literature search by Faculty" pages provide a Faculty-specific compilation of the relevant electronic resources that we offer to make your search easier.

Please also refer to the instructions on the VPN for use from home.
The collection of electronic media can only be used by university members.

Due to the current restrictions and regulations, in-person instruction can unfortunately not take place.

In consultation with the course tutors, our events will therefore be held electronically using Moodle.

Consultations for final theses are currently offered via zoom; you can register here.

During the semester break, we are offering training workshops on citavi, Zotero , or literature searching . You can register in VirtuOhm; the link for the workshop will be sent before the meeting via email.

In the meantime, you can use the training materials from previous library events.

For some time now, the library has offered to scan in printed publications for the electronic reserve shelf in line with copyright laws and make those scans available to teaching staff. You will still be able to use this service.

Purchase suggestions for e-books

It will also still be possible to suggest purchases using the standard forms. We will check whether we are also able to provide the title as an eBook.
