Study preparation courses

With targeted courses in mathematics, physics, and English, we aim to support you and provide you with tips to help you with your own preparation. The requirements of university-level study in these subjects in particular can form an obstacle to studying successfully at university. Success in your degree programme often closely depends on effective preparation for your time at university. You are therefore encouraged to take advantage of our tailored programme of courses and advice sessions:

For prospective students from non-technical specialized secondary schools/advanced vocational colleges

For individuals with vocational qualifications

Are you interested in studying for a degree as further training or for a career change? If you hold vocational qualifications, you can also study without a university entrance qualification. Find out more about the admission requirements and the numerous support options available at Nuremberg Tech here.

Courses during the semester

As a student with a vocational diploma from a non-technical specialized secondary school/advanced vocational college, you will encounter topics in technical and natural sciences degree programmes that did not form part of your curriculum.
These are required at university-level, however. In order to provide you with a successful start to your degree programme,
we offer a Mathematics Starter Kit.

Dates:

Saturday, 5 October 2019, 9 am to 2 pm, WD.001
Saturday, 12 October 2019, 11.45 am to 2 pm, WD.001

Registration is open from 1 to 5 October via VirtuOhm

Anyone from the target group is able to join, and there is no maximum number of course participants. However, to enable us to plan the course appropriately, we request that you register via VirtuOhm. The course can be found in “Hochschulweite Einschreibungen” [university-wide enrolment] under “Starterpaket Mathematik/Physik” [Maths/Physics starter kit]. Please select the current semester.

Mathematics starter kit

Any work involving physics requires knowledge of fundamental physical measurements and their units. In order to calculate physical measurements from results or from measurements given in an exercise, it is essential to be confident in handling equations, including differential and integral calculus.
Degree programmes will expect you to have this knowledge or will only cover it briefly. For this reason, the Physics Starter Kit will introduce or refresh the necessary basic knowledge and confirm your understanding with exercises.

Dates:

Tuesday, 10 March 2020, from 9 am to 2 pm
Wednesday, 11 March 2019, from 9 am to 2 pm
Thursday, 12 March 2019, from 9 am to 2 pm

Location: KA.107, Keßlerplatz 12

The course is aimed at medical engineering students who have physics lectures in the summer semester. To enable us to plan the course appropriately, we request that you register via VirtuOhm. The course can be found in “Hochschulweite Einschreibungen” [university-wide enrolment] under “Starterpaket Mathematik/Physik” [Maths/Physics starter kit]. Please select the current semester.

To provide support in preparation for the examination in engineering mathematics and physics, we offer students the opportunity to discuss and resolve any outstanding maths and physics-related queries and problems in January and February between the end of lectures and the examination.

The sessions are intended for individuals or small groups who still have queries regarding certain topics and tasks that may come up in the examination.

To arrange these sessions, please contact the lecturer Dr Klaus Greipel.

Period:

17 January to 12 February between 9 am and 5 pm, room KA.118

Time: To be arranged with the lecturer. Please arrange initially with your learning group and then suggest a date/time to Mr Greipel. Individuals are also welcome to get in touch, of course.
