The provision and organisation of mobility for persons and goods are one of the basic requirements for a working economy. Dealing with traffic in this regard requires multidisciplinary capabilities, which are often under-represented in conventional engineering courses.

In view of this, it is our responsibility to combine the benefits offered by the diverse range of courses available at our university in the fields of road construction, transportation planning, traffic engineering, automotive engineering, and transport economics in the form of a high-quality academic qualification that is of use to interested students. Very few German cities have played such a significant role in the history of transport as Nuremberg. Our university is one of the oldest universities in Germany with a technical focus and was founded by Johannes Scharrer, who also established the first railway line in Germany, which ran from Nuremberg to Fürth.

The Urban Mobility (Transportation Engineering) master’s degree programme is currently Bavaria's only master’s degree programme for traffic engineers and traffic planners offered in German. It is characterized by a high share of interdisciplinary course content and covers the entire spectrum of urban transport. The course is delivered by lecturers from five Faculties (Applied Mathematics and Physics, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, and Social Sciences).

Information on admission

Admission requirements for the master’s degree programme in Urban Mobility (Transport Engineering) are:

  • Documentation of successful completion of the bachelor’s degree programme in Civil Engineering with the specialization in Transport at the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm

    or

  • Documentation of successful completion of a degree comprising at least 180 credits, which is closely related to the objectives of this master’s degree programme, according to § 2 of the Study and Examination Regulations, or an equivalent degree

    and

  • Documentation of specific aptitude for the degree programme through a procedure in accordance with § 6 of the Study and Examination Regulations for the master’s degree programme in Urban Mobility (Transportation Engineering).

 

Required language certificates:

Instruction in this degree programme is conducted in German. Applicants who are native speakers of a language other than German, who do not have bachelor’s degree from a German educational institution, and who have not completed German-language vocational or professional training at secondary school must provide one of the following certificates as documentation of their German proficiency:

  • German language examination for the university admission of foreign applicants (DSH-Stufe 2)

  • TestDaF (“Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache” with an above-average score (minimally level 4 in all four examination components)

  • Telc German C1 University (“Telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule”)
