The Industrial Engineering and Management master’s degree programme is aimed at engineers with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or related courses of study who would like to further deepen their knowledge and skills in the subject area of industrial production. This programme can be studied in a part-time model (6 semester standard duration), which makes it well suited for professionals.

The curriculum ranges from production development to business operations. Topics include: industrial engineering, planning and control, standardisation of production processes, new manufacturing technologies, global production and logistics networks, and digitalisation of industrial processes (Industry 4.0). The programme offers advanced study in the Simulation and Management specialisations.

  • The interdisciplinary orientation of technical and business management content in the field of production is a unique selling point of this course.
  • The degree programme is designed as a part-time course with a standard period of study of 6 semesters. In order to facilitate part-time study, most of the course components are available digitally and/or online. In addition, the compact timetable is designed so that all face-to-face or synchronous components are offered on two days (Thursday afternoon and Friday).
  • Students wishing to take the degree programme in full-time mode can also obtain all course credits in 3 semesters, as all components are offered without timetable overlaps or space restrictions. (Note: as this is a part-time degree programme, it is not eligible for federal education assistance (Bafög), even if studied in full-time mode.)
  • The language of instruction is mainly German, with some subjects in English.

Information on admission

The admission requirements for the Industrial Engineering and Management master’s degree programme are as follows:

1) Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree or Diplom in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or an equivalent degree with 210 credits and a final grade point average of at least 2.7.
There is currently no numerus clausus (NC).

2) Documentation of relevant professional practice in the field of mechanical engineering as part of a university degree or equivalent for at least 16 weeks or at least one year outside of university.

3) Language skills sufficient for the degree programme according to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). These are: Documentation of level B2 language skills in English. Documentation of level C1 language skills in German if German is not the language of education of the relevant first degree or university entrance qualification.

Required language certificates

The language of instruction in this degree programme is mainly German. Applicants with a different native language who do not hold a German bachelor’s degree and have not completed a German-language education at a higher education institution must provide one of the following certificates:

  • German Language Examination for University Admission for foreign applicants (DSH level 2)
  • Test of German as a Foreign Language with above-average results (TestDaF; level 4 or higher in all 4 parts of the examination)
