International Field Trip to China 2015

„International Marketing Field Trip to China“... a different elective course. It all started with six preparation sessions at the Technical University in Nuremberg with Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Wellner. The goal of these sessions was to get a background knowledge concerning the Chinese culture and economic situation, especially in relationship to the German market. The interactive course with presentations about B2B partnerships between Chinese and Bavarian companies and the PESTEL analysis of the Chinese market was complimented by the deep market knowledge of Prof. Dr. Wellner. After completing the course the students were well-prepared for the trip to China.

From September 14th to 19th 17 MBA and Master Students from our Technical University Georg Simon Ohm joined the “China Study Week” at the Zhejiang University School of Management (ZJU) in Hangzhou, organized and accompanied by Prof. Dr. Thomas Eckardt and Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Wellner. The focus of this study week was the subject: “Doing Business in China”. The students joined the following lectures and gained a lot of insights in opportunities and risks the Chinese market presents for German business people.

  • Chinese Economic Development and FDI Opportunities (Prof. Dr. Wei Longbao)
  • A Political Economy perspective (Prof. Dr. Doug Foster)
  • Entrepreneurship in China (Prof. Dr. Mark Greeven)

Besides the theoretical background, the Students of Ohm University Nuremberg also got the chance to participate in two exclusive company visits. The first visit was with the company Sunon which has its business mainly in the field of B2B office furniture, and the second concern was Wensli, a company that produces silk and operates globally. With company presentations and site tours, both companies gave highly interesting insights in their daily business.

Furthermore, new Chinese cultural experiences also played an important role during the Study Week. One cultural highlight was the visit of the Song-Dynasty Show in Hangzhou, which impressed the students with traditional songs and dances. At the end of the study week in Hangzhou, the students stayed for two days in Shanghai and joined a sightseeing tour through the impressive metropolis.

During the stay in Shanghai, the students had the pleasure to meet the German General Consul Peter Rothen at his consulate. In this personal atmosphere, the German students could socialize with Chinese students, professors and the German Consul and his wife. It was a great evening to experience the Chinese culture and mentality!
